I closed my business account 18 months ago with Natwest as the company was put into liquidation. Am I able to still reclaim bank charges from them for a business account or is it just for personal accounts?0

Hi
I would firstly like to say that this is a great site for giving power to the people. My question is that my husband and I have two partnership business accounts (i.e. Mr & Mrs ....T/A, not a limited company). We pay additonal charges for cheques etc. as it is a business account. However, we have been charged excessively £15 each time a debit is taken when overdrawn by more than £50. Sometimes we have three seperate charges in one week. Example we have been charged £15 three times by initially going overdrawn by £60. The bank have deducted £7 monthly maintenance fee, charged again and then charged again on debiting their own charges of £15. Whats worse is that our other business account is in credit. Can we claim back all our unauthorised overdraft charges over the last six years?0 -
Can someone tell me, is it possible to reclaim charges from a business account, I am not Ltd, I am a sole trader, in fact the account is in my personal name T/A business name, I have had a lot of bank charges to this account over the years, I am just starting my claim today, I have written with a £10.00 cheque asking for the total amount of charges, I am just trying to pre-empt their response and want to be ready with an instant reply.
Many Thanks0 -
Hi all,
Just starting the process.
I used to have a small business that banked at the same bank/branch as my personal account.
That business is now defunct, having been forced to close due to market pressure, but my bank certainly didn't help. They hit with charges and charges and charges.
Eventually they 'closed' the business account (although statements cropped up intermittently for the next couple of years or so) and transferred the entire negative balance to my personal account with predictable consequences as I was unemployed at the time and trying to get a regular job again. They turned the debt into a 'managed loan' which at the time I thought was fantastic, but has since proved more of a hinderance than a help.
I fully intend to claim the charges for the spiral this has sent my personal account into, but if my business account is now finally closed for real (although i only have Indian call centre staffs' word for that, and my trust in this area has been frequently abused) can I still claim back the charges and do I need to pay the Data Protection Register fee twice, once for each account?
Many Thanks,
Potiphar0 -
Hi
We are just about to get to grips with claiming the charges on our closed business account and we have noticed every quarter on the summary sheet thre is a charge called a 'renewal fee' ranging anywhere from £64 to £130. Does anyone know what this might be a charge for???0 -
You can claim back similar charges on a business account as on a personal account but not annual/monthly business account charges, arrangement fees or charges for cash, pay-ins issuing cheques etc.
Please read post 4 in Reclaim Help Thread, link in my signature, and if you don't know what the charges are for please phone your bank and ask for their list of business charges.0 -
Yes you can claim for your closed business account, however if you were trading as a limited company the DPA request wont cover the business account as it is only personal data that can be supplied. If it wasnt ltd then one £10.00 DPA request will cover both accounts.0

Hello to everyone.
Please can anyone confirm to me that these rules also apply with a business bank account?
Thanks.0
