I have just heard of reclaiming bank charges, can someone inform me how far back can you claim?
I see no reference to any claims going back further than 6 years.
Could anyone inform me if i could claim back further as i was charged regulary over a long period during the nineties.
Many thanks0 -
Hello Potiphar
I just had to comment on your post. I too have a business and personal account with the same bank and although I am still trading, it has been really tough and you are sooooooo right, the banks do not help, they only want to help when you dont need it, when you do need it they pull the rug away. My account manager "persuaded" me to sell my endowment policy on my house to get my overdraft back in line. What sort of advice is that? From having a potential shortfall on my policy, I now have no policy at all.
Good luck with your claim.
Kind regards

You can only go back 6 years. Unfortunately, I also suffered in the nineties with excessive charges.

Hi everyone,
I have been advised by the snivilling horror at the Royal Bank of Scotland that I cannot reclaim Bank charges on my Business account - is this right as the ******'s have just about driven my business under for no good reason other than greed. Help please!!!!
Cheers Jed0 -
Thanks, guys!
@demicat, I know, they were really not at all helpful to me, and I frequently got staff on the phone promising and agreeing things that were then refuted by letter. It's a great shame that I don't have recordings of those conversations (I'm aware of legal problems with doing this!) Good luck with your situation and I hope it all picks up soon!
@nowretired, thanks! No, I wasn't Limited ...silly I know... So I can write one letter stating both account numbers on one cheque for £10? Fantastic!
Lets see how this goes!0 -
Hi, am I able to reclaim 'Charge Arrangement Fees' and 'Charge Renewal Fees' from HSBC. I think these were charges for temporarily increasing the overdraft on my business account. They typically range from £20, £35 & £50 - it would have probably cost me less than £50 to exceed my overdraft limit without telling them beforehand, so these charges seem even more ridiculous than unauthorised overdraft fees! These were mainly from 2002 and I can't remember if I agreed to these charges, and whether they gave me prior notice of them or not.0

we have a ltd company which was a sole trader before that. can we reclaim our charges on business accounts?0

Yes you can claim for busuness accounts although a DPA request does not cover a limited company as it is for Personal data. A limited companys data is not classed as personal but your Sole Trader one will. You probably will have the statements you need as you have to keep all records for tax purposes for 6 years.0

Hi, am new to this forum so please bear with me and hope I've posted this query in the right place!
Am trying to help my partners parents reclaim bank charges. They both run their own business and have been hit with charges over the years.
Can they challege their bank to try and reclaim any charges against their business? Or does reclaiming bank charges not apply to business and only the general public?
Any advice / help would be great!
Best regards0 -
Hi - reclaiming bank charges works for businesses too...You need to go over to the Bank Action Group and get the letter template (business Version)...Its the same as the normal one but you need to omit something..I`ll be back when I find it...0
