Nor do I understand the 4 hours per month, so I would suggest you phone TalkTalk and tell them you will move to Onetel unless they switch you to TalkTalk 1+, which will give you free UK calls evenings and w/ends for a during of 70 minutes per call.
And perhaps sign up for 18866 for any daytime calls you might make!
Hi,
The package I am on is Talk 240, which allows me to make 4 hours free local calls in weekends and evenings per month for no fee. My understanding is that it is for free local calls, and not national calls as well, but it is no longer listed on their website so I can't check this. My recollection is that national calls were being charged on the bill, so I don't use them for national calls any more. I suppose I could try one just to check. I currently use 18866 and 1899 when appropriate on top of this, and rarely exceed the four hours per month free on Talk Talk.
As far as I can see, I would be better off sticking with this arrangement, rather than changing to one where I would be charged 3.99 per month (albeit refunded for the first year). However, I am finding it tricky to calculate what the cheapest option would be.
Thanks for your help.
Regards

Is this possible ? (Edinburghlass) Want to sign a couple of relatives to OneTel through Rpoints. Neither of them are registered with Rpoints - so I could introduce them - get 500 points for them and me each time - refer them to Onetel - get a twenty credit each time for them and me. So they end up with £40 credit and I have £40 credit along with £10 on Rpoints with me and £17.50 each on Rpoints for them (£5 referral and £12.50 for joining OneTel).
So effectively - they gain by £57.50 rather than the £32.50 in Martin's article and I get £10 ? Seems to good to be true - probably is.0 -

My recommendation would be to phone TalkTalk and threaten to leave them unless they change you onto the TalkTalk1+ tariff which would give you free UK calls evening and w/ends for one year. If TalkTalk won't change your tariff you could then actually move to Onetel, however, when TalkTalk brought out this free year of calls many existing customers were changed over to the new tariff and I would think if you threaten them with leaving they will be happy to keep you. This would then save you working out how many hours you have used in a month and also it does you for national as well as local calls! Four hours a month to me doesn't sound like much with a teenager in the house, that would be used up in one night, lol.
You would still use 18866 for 1p calls through the day.0 -

I have absolutely no idea, lol. I don't know enough about Rpoints, although I am sure there are a lot of experts on here, plus I have stayed with TalkTalk for the free calls at any time with my friends and family who are also registered with TalkTalk.0 -
anyone know the differences between InternationalCaller and InternationalTalk? Latter is free and the former is £1 a month.thanks to everyone who has thanked me!0

For those that are not aware, you can use your computer as a telephone (if you have broadband). Skype is the answer for all you bargain hunters out there).
For example, install Skype and get your friend in America to install it too - you can now call each other for free using your computers (peer to peer)! All you need is a mic and speakers (but better with a headset).
You can also use it to call landlines and mobiles in any country really cheaply. For example a call to a landline in the USA is only 0.020 euros a minute!
The main benefit is you don't have any ridiculous line rental to pay the monopoly likes of BT (or should I say the Indian phone co.). I now live in an area where I can have cable internet. I have broadband cable internet at just £17 a month and have no need for a phone line.
For more about Skype see their website here:

To see their prices when calling landlines and mobiles go here:

That's 37p more than it'd cost on 1899.30 years, 217 days!0 -
I get unlimited FREE calls 24/7 with Utility Warehouse Discount Club. All my friends / family are with them. OK, so it took a little while to get everyone on the system, but now its working, it really is FREE. Oh, and we get cashbacks every year too for saving money on our other utilities. And, yes, I AM a distributor with the Company, and yes, you could too.

to suggest that if you are on Onetel and using 18866 for other calls that one should use Onetel for mobile AND 0845/0870 calls?
They appear cheaper and they help to use up your Onetel 'credits'.0 -
I guess one will have to see if the 3.99 credit can be used up with calls to mobiles and 0845/0780 calls?
I refer to sergeant121's excellent summary:
http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=16&page=29&pp=10
In summary, the latest 'best buy' for people with BT landlines appears to be:
(1). Dial 150 and tell BT you want to change to BT Together Option 1. That'll reduce your costs with BT to just landline rental (£10.50/month if pay by DD or £11.50/month if pay any other way).
(2). Before the end of February, sign up for Carrier PreSelect [CPS] on either TalkTalk's Talk1+ package and OneTel's LeisureUKTalk package - they appear to be offering the best 'freebies' this month - and enjoy, for NO MONTHLY FEE, free evening and weekend calls to UK 01 & 02 numbers for a year.
(3). Sign up for call18866.co.uk and use the 18866 prefix for all your daytime calls to UK 01 and 02 numbers (1p connection and 0p per minute).
(4). Sign up for call1899.co.uk and use the 1899 prefix for all your calls to UK mobiles (10p/minute during the week and 2p/minute at the weekend).
(5). If you have to make calls to 0845 or 0870 numbers, make them on BT (dial a 1280 prefix is you opt for one of the Carrier PreSelect services above) if you can't find an alternative geographical number on SayNoTo0870.com0
