I had the One-Tel service on my old number. On my new number I got the offer that Martin describes (free evening and weekend calls for a year). Not sure if I have my £20 credit though!

However, now that I have my new number registered, One-Tel wrote to me saying that if a friend signs up they will give my friend £20 credit and give me £20 credit as well!

Just call 0800 957 0031 or log on at: https://www.onetel.co.uk/friend
  • I signed up with One.Tel for the free intro the last time it was in moneytips. I've not used it all up, I want to keep this for as long as I can to use their Directory Enquiries which as you know are free. I have £12.38 left.

Can anyone tell me, or am I daft for not realising, that I can get free evening calls on the package I signed up to? It's just that when I looked at my online bill it seemed to show that I had been billed for them.

What time do they say an evening call starts and finishes? Is it the same as BT? Maybe I was calling to early.

WE may be able to help if you tell us what package you signed up for!
  • It depends what the dial-up number is.

My (flat rate of £13.99 per month) dial-up has always been with OneTel and uses an 0808 (freephone) number but, when I was with Tele2 CPS, that was no problem - a freephone call is free (except on some mobiles).

    Thanks sergeant121...

The number dial up is 1470 0808 9933001. I just did a bit of research, and I guess the 1470 is put on the front if you withold your phone number. That leaves me with the 0808, which is a freephone like you said.

So thanks for that--I'll get onto OneTel now without worries!
  • Following Martin's advice (thanks!) I have joined 18866 and have attempted to join one tel as well. Because I once (ages ago) registered with one of their internet packages which I immediately cancelled and never used, I am now classed as a customer - even though I never paid them any money or used their services! So I was prompted to phone the 0800 number which was obviously in India, and once I had given all my details I was "transferred to a colleague" which actually translates as "cut you off". So now I can't register online and I have lost the will to try phoning India again. Can anyone persuade me that it is worth the agro??!! Are the savings worth the hassle?
    Thanks

  • ok, as a newbie I really appreciate all these money saving tips and articles, but I'm completly flumuxed by this one!
My situation: NTL Talk 24 cost £25pm (just blagged free basic cable package as well, saving £10pm) and NTL Broadband (still under contract...£17.99pm) so....would I be better off changing to OneTel and the others mentioned?? (I'm presuming a change to BT may be needed or at least dropping down from NTL's Talk24...)
    TIA
  • freecycle, first of all how long will you get the cable package free for? Not that it sounds terribly free if you are paying £25 a month for line rental, phone calls and the cable, perhaps you could elaborate on what the Talk24 consists of. Assuming it includes all your UK calls 24/7 and a line rental it actually works out pretty expensive.

If you were with BT the basic line rental would be £10.50 a month so you are paying £14.50 a month for your calls? I am with TalkTalk for the free year of evening and w/end calls on a package similar to Onetel and use 18866 for any daytime call, mobile or international calls and my monthly bill to 18866 is nothing like £14.50 in fact more like a couple of pounds :)

I think you need to look into how much your cable tv would cost you if you dropped the Talk24 and if you want to keep the cable package then look at what exactly they are charging you for the call aspect of the package. I am sure we can get your monthly outgoings considerably lessened :D
  • <<if you are paying £25 a month for line rental, phone calls and the cable, perhaps you could elaborate on what the Talk24 consists of.>>

Talk24 means we can call any landline for up to an hour at a time anytime at all within the monthly amount. I've got my recent bill here -
    Talk Unlimited 24 + mobile £17.50
    viocemail £1.75pm
    line rental £9.49

the mobile part means we get slightly cheaper mobile calls - but since looking at the bill we've decided we need to review it! I'll have to check and see if we're tied into a 12 month thing with Talk 24 - I'm not sure.

The base pack for cable would be £10 per month, but prior to that we used Freeview and have only gained 4 channels or there abouts......hmm...time to review
