  • Time to review indeed :D

If you are only gaining 4 new channels on the cable and paying that much for phone calls it really doesn't seem worth it. Have you ever worked out how many calls in a month you do actually make 24/7 as if you use 18866 it works out at a heck of a number of calls at 1p a time plus with 18866 you are not paying for calls you can't make while on holiday for instance ;)

Would you be a returning customer to BT or a new customer as if you are a new BT customer its £75 to have a line put in which you would need to factor into the price of transfering to BT. If you are a returning customer you could make substantial savings by using BT. You could then sign up to Onetel (provided they continue their offer past February) or TalkTalk for free evening and w/end calls for a year and use 18866 for daytime calls at 1p a time. For your mobile calls 1899 are cheaper and you can use either for international calls.

This would also give you much more scope for changing your broadband provider should you want to in the future. :)

    Hope all this helps.
  • freecycle,
I think you are an NTL customer and as such you should get your phone line rental free for a year as you are taking Phone,TV and Broadband with them. That saves you £9.50/month. Next register with 18866 and 1899. As a cable customer 18866 charge you .5p/min to geographical nos. so use them for short calls. 1899 charge 3p/call with nothing/min so use them for longer calls. Also downgrade your phone package to the 3-2-1 tariff so you only pay for what you use. I have just changed from the Talk unlimited 24 package and having made 104 calls to geo nos. it would have cost me £3.12 for the month instead of the £15.50 for the talk unlimited package. I have just come off the free for 3 months deal with Talk unlimited 24 and forgot to down grade earlier. They said I'll get a credit for the rest of the months rental so it shouldn't be a problem. :D
...and then the window licker said to me...

A quick question for you if anyone knows the answer please?

As an existing customer I was on StandardUKTalk having downgraded to this last month to make use of the 3p connection/0p per minute offers with 18866/1899 etc as this would work out cheaper than LeisureUKTalk. Then I saw the information on Onetel's latest offer and thought this would be easier to save having to remember to pre-dial. I tried signing up online but it came up with an error (discussed right at the top of this thread!). As I have 2 numbers registered with them in the same account (one at my address, one at my parents to keep things simple for them), I then called them up and cancelled the service on my main line. As a result, on this line, I was no longer a customer. Minutes later, I "recommended" myself and signed up for the LeisureUKTalk package through their promotion (back into the same account as it would not allow setting up a new one).

With me so far? To cut a long story short, the bills for this month are now online. I have been credited with £40 (£20 as referer, £20 as referee) but the £3.99 free UK calls for a year credit is not showing. As the promotion ends tomorrow, does anyone know whether I should push the issue as I have £40 credit or would that be pushing it too much? I could of course downgrade back to StandardUKTalk (free weekend calls) but as they are promoting LeisureUKTalk heavily for free calls for a year plus credits, then is it worth a phone call or would that ring alarms on the £40 credit?

    Any advice greatfully received.

  • I haven't gone for it myself so not quite sure but I thought I read that the £3.99 is debited to your account then credited off?

Have you been charged the £3.99 at all?

You are right edinburghlass, they simply credit back the £3.99 to your account that you would normally be charged, thus leaving a £0.00 balance, then your call charges are added and paid as normal.

It is supposed to be debited and then credited ... they have mastered the former and forgotten the latter! Therefore charged £3.99 but not credited for that. Maybe I am being greedy as I managed to get £40 credit anyway (with refer a friend), but thought I would ask as there is nothing like saving money :).

Of course, as it worked last time, I could of course cancel one line, refer and sign up again and hope to get another £40 credit ... ;) but I think I am on the right side of the rules at the moment and do not want to abuse the system or their generosity.

The One-Tel rebate on the LeisureTalk opton is £3.99/month. You are credited with £3.99p each month for one year (and also debited as they take the monthly charge from you). In effect it costs you nothing for the first year.

You do not get the whole year's credit in one go!

After one year, the monthly credits of £3.99p cease but the £3.99p debits continue so, from the second year onwards you pay £3.99p for the service (unless, of course, you cancel).

I have programmed my mobile phone to alert me in January next year to switch to whatever is the best One-Tel call plan for me at the time!
  • Well, we've done the deed!! We're expecting a new BT number from tommorow - but will also have to keep the NTL one as they require 30 days notice?! I've just signed up to 18866 and OneTel, so we're happy as Larry at such a good saving :))
    Many thanks!!!!

I am due to change to Lesuire talk with Ontel on 1st March. As I understand you pay £3.99 a month but get £3.99 in call credits plus £20 call credit.

However I am not sure whether this is a good thing unless you use the phone a lot. If you use 18866 as I do now I have been charged nearly £1 in calls in a over a week, most of that was I made a mistake with 0845 number so I don't reckon its all that good using the Lesuire talk if you only make local/national calls your only paying 1p connection.

Just looked at the plans available looks like I can change as I aint changed over yet to Ontel

    StandardUKTalk
Evening calls to UK numbers for just 5p an hour
FREE Weekend calls to UK numbers
10% off BT Together for UK daytime calls
5% off BT Together rates to UK mobiles

    COST FREE

    LeisureUKTalk
FREE Evening and Weekend calls to UK numbers
10% off BT Together for UK daytime calls
5% off BT Together rates to UK mobiles

COST £3.99 as a phone credit
