Thanks for all the tips i am a real techno-phobic but ive managed today to take the one-tel offer and sign up to 18866 having got a bt account on our two phone lines. I guess i am one of the people that B.T. and the like make money out of. I am very nervous of all the bills. Could you tell me again having got internet access do i continue to use B.T. for this and is it really very much different doing this in the day to the evening rought cost guide anyone With thanks ;)
If you are on normal dial up connection with BT OR OneTel, it should not make any difference whether you surf evenings or daytime. Normal rates for Dial Up are usually about 1p per min with any ISP you are registered with.
I have a Broadband Connection with Tiscali with a Dial-up connection with OneTel as a back-up should my Broadband go down (which sometimes happens) or if I should decide to leave Tiscali and have to wait to get re-connected to another ISP.
    Hope this helps

  • If you are on a PAYG dial up ISP usually the number is an 0845, local call rate which is only around the 1p at night and can be as much as 4p a minute through the day.

Some ISP will guarantee that it is 1p per minute, TalkTalk for one, but most will only quote that it is local call rate and then it is up to you to find out what you are paying at a given time through your CPS for a local call rate.

So to get free calls for 12mths+, I can get a one.tel customer to recomend me get £20 cr, sign up via mycashback.com get £12, join one.tel online get £20cr, recmmend a friend get £20cr.

Then I'll have £60 in credit with onetel, I'll use 18866 for daytime calls, get free eveneing/weekend calls with onetel, and eat in =to my £60 credit slowly when I call mobiles or forget the 18866 prefix, - this could take months; and after 12mths I'd be contacting onetel to change to the standard tariff, and possibly never have have paid a peeny in call costs due to the credits I built up.

Even one £20cr would last me months.

    Am I right aren't I ?

Would there be an issue with onetel, are they interested in a current avg. monthly bill ?

Have just spoken to the Indian Call centre, now there's a surprise.
As an existing customer I am not entitled to this new offer as we have found out.
However, I asked whether if I cancelled my account and then rejoined in a weeks time say, would that entitle me to the offer as a new customer?
Absolutely not was the reply, it doesn't matter whether I left and joined another company and then rejoined OneTel in a years time, as far as their computers are concerned, I would be rejoining on a land-line number known to them, therefore as far as they are concerned, I am still 'on their books',
this seems to be a ridiculous situation to me.
Has anyone else had similar information?

I was with OneTel for about a year and recently switched to Tele2 as their free anytime call package was the cheapest - this was before I found 18866 for uk calls and Telesavers to call my parents in Spain for 1p per minute (I'm now saving 40-50 per month on my international calls - thanks Martin) I've just tried to go back to One-Tel to get package plus £20 credit plus greasy palm cashback and have failed miserably. Website wont let me sign up online as I am still classed as an account holder, so can't get greasy palm £12 and they want to charge me the standard £3.99. Don't they want previous customers to come back? Do you think speaking to the Senior Customer Service person would make any difference?

My boyfriend has also just tried to register instead of me as I was the existing account holder but apparently that doesnt make a difference as the number is registered. What if I had left him and he wanted to apply surely then he would qualify - bit harsh otherwise.

Absolutely right edinburghglass, I should have known better and spotted that.
It's been a while since I did any serious surfing using dial-up, but it's useful to have back-up

Also if you add your a dial up number to a friends and family scheme for a further discount should you need to use it ;)
  • OK - I am an NTL Customer - I read the first thread from Martin and thought I would delve into the world of telecom savings. I signed up to rpoints website and then signed up for 18866 online and onetel online. (so I have got £12.50 so far), I started to use 18866 and then found that because I have NTL, the cost of calls is 0.5p per min plus 1p call conection charge - (This is still cheaper than NTL so so far so good), I then called Onetel because I couldn't use there service and the Indian lady said that my order had gone through as if I was a BT customer and she will change this for me however because I have an NTL line, I am no longer entitled to the £3.99 per month credit ALSO re the £20 CALL CREDIT **** SHE SAID - IT WILL BE PUT ON YOUR ACCOUNT AFTER YOU HAVE HAD 2 BILLS FROM ONETEL****** which isnt mentioned anywhere as far as I can see.

I have done a breakdown for people wanting info on which provider to use at which time *NTL Customers only*

Call Type One-Tel (4.8p min call charge) 18866(1p cc) NTL (5p cc)
    Daytime
    Local & Nat 2.7 0.5 3
    0.845 3.6 4 4.45
    0.870 7.51 9 8.1
    Vodaphone 15.5 14 21.99

    Evening
    Local & Nat FREE 0.5 2
    0.845 1.2 4 1.75
    0.870 3.75 9 4.3
    Vodaphone 6.25 14 11.17

    Weekend
    Local & Nat FREE 0.5 1
    0.845 1.2 4 1.45
    0.870 1.5 9 2.75
    Vodaphone 3.5 4 4.39

    D Enq FREE 118111 ? 40p call 118878

(Not sure how these figures will come out, if you want the above in an excel document, post a reply to this below and I will send one)

As far as I can see, I am still better off using onetel even with the £3.99 charge arnt I??? I didn't realise NTLs prices were so high. (The prices here are from the 321 Call Plan with NTL)

www.call1899.co.uk - 3 p connection but then 0p per minute (it is according to the message you get when you connect, still using NTL).

I followed a recommendation from a friend - £20 for them, £20 for me - the call credit is showing on my account now - if you log in to onetel, under My Billing, Payment History, it is showing there (it is on mine anyway!). Not sure whether this is in addition to the £20 offer on LeisureUKcalls or instead of? Also on NTL, it let me sign up and the final page showed £0 when I clicked through the registration system? I clearly clicked Cable rather than BT and it still went through. I will await the bill next week to see what is showing!

  • Hi,
I am currently with Talk Talk on my BT line. I've been with them some time, and the package is quite an attractive one.

I have free evening and weekend LOCAL calls (up to 4 hours per month), with no monthly fee. It's difficult for me to work out whether I will be better or worse off using One Tel for ALL calls free. Does the £3.99 charge kick in eventually, or does it continue to be free when you sign up this way? (Most of my calls are local, but not all)

    Thanks

    rumbly
