O.K. for BT customers. But what about non-BT customers?

I use One-Tel's International Talk option which is an override service rather than CPS. I get a free DQ service but not any other free calls.

I've just signed up for this, as well as 18866. I probably should have tackled my rising phone costs some time ago so this was a good nudge for me to do something about it now. Thank you. :)

The cynical part of me needs to query how easy it will be to leave one tel after the year is up should I want to? Anyone had any problems?

  • I was with Onetel before the TalkTalk offer came out as being the best and it was very easy to leave them. TalkTalk contacted them and then Onetel gave me the date their service would cease and that was that. :)

I was with onetel some time ago and then moved to talk talk. They still had me on international service so i had to be passed on to "Senior Customer Advisor" after being told that this promotion was for new customers only. The "senior advisor" promptly shifted me to the new package including free calls and £20 call credit. Since i had to do it over the phone I did not get the benefit from rpoints but £20 off calls which i will use for 0870/0845 numbers is great.

Thx Martin for the heads up on this.
  • One thing to point out to TalkTalk customers thinking about changing is how many of your friends and family that you phone a lot are on TalkTalk as I find it handy to be able to phone for free at ANY time of the day.

You will of course have £20 credit to make these phone calls but its a point to think about.

Just received email from One Tel with a link for a 'welcome pack'. Also told that 'PhonePal' box is on it's way. I didn't know that a separate dialler box was needed for the One Tel service, so I checked in the welcome pack and apparently the dialler box is only for NON BT lines.

Since I have a BT line it looks like there's been a mistake made already.

Anyone else who has a BT line getting or got a PhonePal? Obviously emailed them but it's too early for a reply.

  • I am an existing customer - already on the plan - I phoned the number Martin gave and got through to what sounded like an Indian call centre - when I said that I wished to cancel because existing loyal customers were being treated worst than new customers I was put through to a 'Senior Customer Advisor' and was able to get the plan for free for a year - initially he only offered 2 months then 3 months then when I said I was cancelling and going to 18866 (obviously doesn't know I can use them anyway) we struck a deal for the year - (no chance of the extra £20 credit) but Martin saves me another £48 quid :D (Don't worry I do give a cut to charity!)

Does one-tel provide the likes of call-barring from your phone? I have it activated on my BT line out of necessity, when the kids wouldn't heed my, "don't call mobiles without the prefix" request. Was costing a small fortune. I wouldn't like to save £32 by moving over, but end up costing myself more in the long-run.

    Cheers.
  • This aint worth the hassle, just been on the phone for 25 minutes to One Tel to discover that if you have ever had an account with them, you cannot sign up online, hence cant get Greasy Palm.

Will stick with 18866 nice and straightforward !!
  • Will Caller Display still work on One Tel? I'm on BT and 18866 at the moment.
