God in heaven - what a system! I'm in a totally different boat to most of you peeps. I got through about 2 weeks ago, after about a 20 minute hold, and informed the TC office that my daughter is off to university (Ie. She will no longer be living at my address), only DD2 will be at home. I also called CB and told them the same. Well, this week CB was paid for both DDs, and after checking, have found that a substantial increased amount of TC went into my bank a/c yesterday! I had previously been told by both departments that no payment would be made for DD1 after 31st August 2010. I've asked myself had they underpaid for the year, and just making up the difference? I am certain this isn't the case as all the previous figures add up correctly. I just know that they've made a c&%*-up!
I've done everything by the book and kept all agencies up-to-date with all the info. Does anyone take a blind bit of notice? NOOOOO! I know that both CB and TC have made overpayments so can just imagine that the next step will be that they'll freeze future payments until I've called them at least 10 times more, put on hold forever, to yet again tell them of the current situation.
IMO it's time to get rid of the entire shambolic department and just higher the tax thresholds. Then just perhaps, we can all understand what is going on (on second thoughts perhaps not considering the massive gaffs HMRC have recently made!). Give me strength!0 -
If i were you i would make sure that i put the extra payments that i had received to one side . They are bound to contact you regarding the over payment even though it was their fault as they didnt act on instruction .
At least if you have it in a seperate account it wont cause you hardship when they ask for it back.0 -

Well I got a big payment from them today - looks about 4 weeks worth also. So yes I am happier and grateful that its been sorted.
(Although I just wish I knew before all my direct debits bounced at the beginning of Sept and I might have been able to avoid all the bank charges)0 -
I hope everyone's got their Tax Credit problems with children staying on in 6th Form/going to College sorted. The system appears to have changed for the worse, when I let them know my Daughter was staying on at school 2 years ago there were no problems getting it sorted.
A Word of warning: contact Tax Credits well before the renewal date in the year that your children will leave either 6th Form or College or you will end up with a Tax Credit overpayment.
Try to plan in advance how you will manage with either a reduction to existing Tax Credits or the end of your Tax Credit payments (and Child Benefit and Maintenance, if it applies to your situation and you're lucky enough to receive any).
Difficult I know, but speaking from personal experience it's possible that you will lose a fair amount of money each month and have an overpayment to deal with too.0 -
I've just had a random extra payment. Checked to make sure my car insurance had been paid and there was an extra weeks tax credits in the bank.0

Lucky you !!! lol .
Could it be that this is the payment "missing" from last week?
Im still none the wiser about my award.......i was short £120 last week , this weeks payment arrived on the correct day but was £17 leass than usual so for anyone to say that the award is recalculated to include the amount lost last week....it just doesnt make sense !0 -
Pls could someone make sense of my recently rec'd Tax Credit Award notices - rec'd 2 on same day in different envelopes...
one states that I have qualifying child and the other says not!!!
I did advise them she was staying on at school and as far as 'their' WORDING about Child Tax Credit that a 'child element may be paid for a young person under 20.who is studying for a qualification up to and including A level..........Daughter is doing this but I would like to know WHAT DOES MAY BE MEAN?? AND WHO DECIDES ON THIS MAY BE?
Thank you in advance TO ANYONE WHO CAN MAKE any sense on this statement...:)0
