hi
mine never got messed up 3 years ago when the middle child turned 16 and was staying to 6th form
but it has this year, now my daughter has gone back to 6th form, hence like everyone else, no tax credits and have had to borrow to pay bills...
why do they not give backpay? considering they have had it on file for months that we have told them that the child is staying in full time education?0 -

There will be no backpay for the week lost, but payments have been adjusted for the rest of the year to compensate for this...not sure my landlord will be understanding, but at least can expect something this week. And it seems the system may be catching up at last.
glad its getting sorted, but readjusting over the year, blimey we miss a whole week and now prob get an extra £1 or so a week for the next year, doesn't help those who have had to borrow...
lets hope they get everyone sorted asap0 -

I'm so glad i got through this morning. I was 20 minutes away from borrowing from my mother on the strength of some back pay !! AND it's gone down for some reason.0 -

This comes up every single year!
Happened to me a couple of years back and took me by surprise too because, in my case, the advisor wrongly informed me there would be no break in payments.
Why on earth they don't tell us it will happen, I do not know! I mean, how many staff do they have answering frantic calls rather than just inform claimants from the start!
It makes no sense whatsoever! All they need to do is place a warning on the renewal forms and/or train staff to inform people who notify by phone - simples! I know some would still call but nowhere near the volume of calls they must have now.
But no, they'd rather waste tax payers money picking up the fall out!
Sorry, I'm ranting, but just to say it's routine and if you come back here next year, you will see a new batch of parents caught out by it.
Good news is it is only a few days as a rule and they obviously back date it.0 -

And there have even been a couple of posters who have reported a reduction in their payments ?
In my case i was £120 short last week - i was down my payment for my 16 year old and then i was down the disability premium that i receive for this 16 year old......if my payments are back on track i would be imaging that my payments should increase by around £4 per week as there is approx 30 weeks remaining in the tax year.....
But we will see lol my next payments Thur.0 -
Hi,
Guess I must be one of the lucky ones. My son is 16 and returning to school. CTC ended on Aug 31st, which was last tuesday, my usual payday. I phoned the helpline yesterday and she said our new claim had been processed and payments will begin again on Sept 8th, this wednesday, so although 1 day later than normal payments, no real problems for me.
My son is disabled, so whether or not that makes a difference to the speed of the claim being dealt with i'm not sure.

The whole recalculating thing is rather unnerving to say the least, especially if it takes more that a week to fix!!! I don't think my creditors are going to be prepared to wait for me to save up the extra £2 or £3 a week in order to pay next months installments somehow :-S In my case, I can only blame myself as I forgot to inform them, but it now looks as though even if I had remembered we'd be in the same boat.
My heart goes out to the posters who've really lost out in this situation, especially having to buy uniforms, pay enrolment fees etc. My son's enrolment fee is £135 because he is taking a music diploma and will be using a lot of the college's equipment, but thankfully we've been saving for that since July.0
