Did you not seethe reduced amounts noted on your 2010-11 award notice.?I spoke to them back in May when i noticed and they warned meof the procedure.

Yes i saw this, i then called them up asking what it was about, they then told me that it would update itself, but i should get my payments ok, and not be without, is what she told me, so i was quite relieved, but then the week commences and i am left with no money for no idea how long, need it for petrol to get to work, food etc, so we have had to borrow of family until it gets sorted out.
  • I too noticed the reduction in my payments on my most recent award notice...... Doesnt alter the fact though that when i called the tc office up a few months ago to inform them that my daughter would be remaining in eductaion the person i spoke to made it sound ever so simple.....

" your old award will cease on 31st August and your new award will simply begin on 1st september"...would they failed to tell us was that the new award would be proccessed on 1st september , not start on 1st september !
  • I'm in the same position, despite phoning the helpline when I got the renewal. I was told that my son would 'automatically switch from being a child to a student on their system and my payments would be unaltered' I received a quarter of my usual monthly payment yesterday, d/d's due to go out leaving £6 in my account!!! Thank goodness the foodcupboard/freezer are quite well stocked.

This really is a rediculous situation, especially when I was told that the payments would not be affected, if I had know I could have tried to plan ahead but with 2 children back to school this week and the eldest starting college there has been so much to buy I really needed my Tax Credits money - afterall it is supposed to be for the benefit of the children.
    REPAYMENT PLAN
    Barclaycard £6700 0% repaying at £300 pm
    LOAN [STRIKE]£14000[/STRIKE] £9352 - DFD September 2022
  • I think we are all in agreement here !

It seems to me that the tc office need to inform people when they ring up to let them know that their child is staying on a school that there is a very strong possibbility that their payments will be disrupted for a short time.....

Presently , when you ring up to inform them of the change they lead you to believe that the old award will end on 31st August and the new award will simply begin the next day but as we have all now found out this is not the case !

What happens is that the new award is re-calculated from 1st September although it is going to take an unspecified amount of time for the new payments to begin.

At this time of the year when us mums have just bought new school uniforms and all of the other (expensive) bits and pieces that kids need for returning to school and when we have to start paying for school meals etc , we need our tax credits !

If i had been informed by the tc office that this delay was going to occur i could have been a little more prepared.....Im sure im not the only one who feels this way?
  • Hi, have finally got throught to Tax Credits 'helpline', the 0845 300 3900 number was permantently busy but found this number 01355 359007 and got through straight away. The woman was most unhelpful and apparently I will not get another payment until 1 October and instead of the £375pm I was getting I will now receive £240pm. How can this be? I was lead to believe thta my payments would not be affected as my 16 year old was continuing in full-time education. Anyone able to shed some light on this?

Well i can guess as to why the advisor was unhelpful - that number you called is a number for overseas callers only .

Many people have been using it since i was posted on the boards but it just seems to be pot luck as to the response you get from the advisor when you call.

I personally have used the number twice ..... the first time the lady was ever so helpful and yet the second time i called back the advisor frostily informed me that she would help me on this occasion but that i was to use the regular helpline number in future.

As to the problem about your reduction in your monthly amounts....i dont honestly believe anyone on the boards is going to be able to accurately answer that question for you . Ever ones situation is different and the only person who can tell you why your payments have reduced are the tc helpline staff.

In saying that , i cant quite figure out why it could be because as far as i am aware payments dont change when a child stays in education.?

I undersatnd just how difficult it is to get through to the helpline at the min because i too have been trying !

All you can do is keep trying or maybe you could try the other tc number - but please note that we are not supposed to use this either lol but desperate times and all that

    Try this number 0845 300 3600

Post back if you get through and get sorted .

Same boat as everyone else. My last CTC payment was August 25th. I phoned on Friday and they said my new amount had been calculated and my claim was In the process of having payment arrangements aplied to it. Going to phone back this morning to see if anything has been updated. Fingers crossed i might get something on Wednesday with my WTC.

I do agree they should tell ALL people informing them of further education changes that their payments may be disrupted. The majority of people have to live week to week at the moment. I only get £21.90 a week for WTC and that has had to feed 2 adults and a very hungry 16 year old boy for the last week. Thank god i've just come off prepayment utility meters or we'd be sitting in the dark too!

HA!! bang on 8am and already being told to try later.
  • Just got through...my payments are due to start again this week with my WTC. There is no backpay for the weeks i've missed, they've just recalculated my claim for the remainder of the year.

Hope everyones starts getting sorted out soon!!
  • Hi...just to let everyone know, I have just spoke to tax credits peeps and they say payments are to be resumed on wednesday for me..my usual payment day. There will be no backpay for the week lost, but payments have been adjusted for the rest of the year to compensate for this...not sure my landlord will be understanding, but at least can expect something this week. And it seems the system may be catching up at last.
