I cant get through on the helpline number! I have tried 5 times today and each time after the recorded message it says 'all the advisors are busy goodbye!' I need to tell them that my 16yr old has gone to college.
Am I right in thinking that when I tell them I wont get any money for a few weeks?
Edited to add, I have actually told them in July that he was continuing in education but they said ring back the day he starts.£100 - £10,0000 -
I tried five times before getting in the queue, then waited about 20 mins and i think I'm one of the lucky ones- you really just have to keep trying. There are also some alternative numbers posted in this thread.
My change has taken one week, so hopefully you won;t need to wait longer than that if your child's education is the only thing changing. Good luck!0 -
hi
Just to let you know, I have checked my bank account this morning and I have two credits from the Tax Credit. One very small amount and a second amount which is slightly higher than my 'normal' weekly amounts.
Its good that they have got it sorted quickly ( even though in my opinion this shouldnt happen) , however, I still need to juggle my money around to make up for the shortfall from last week.
Hope everyone is also sorted today, and thanks for all the advice / comments !0 -

Once you actualy get through on the phone line to inform them that your child is staying in education , most people are finding that it takes about a week before their payments return to normal.
I was short quite a lot of money last week and my next payment is tomorrow so im hoping that it has been put right.0 -

No. With tax credits this is quite a common occurance .
They seem to be putting a smaller than usual amount into a lot of peoples account and then in quick succession they are putting an amount in which is very similar to the USUAL amount.
This is completely normal and your payment day wont have changed.0 -
See post 54 . This poster has also had double payment .0

Im usually paid 4 weekly and the last payment was 9th August and I was due another 4 weeks on 3rd September but then the schoolchild to student problem raised its ugly head.
I have recieved a payment on 6th for a quarter of what the usual payment should be?? So I have no idea whether payments have gone down or if this is just a token payment? Only problem is that my direct debits didnt get paid on 3rd Sept and now after bank charges etc they have written to say that they will try to take the payments but I have nothing in the bank to pay them for the 2nd attempt0 -
May I suggest that you all ask the board guide alwaysonthego to attach a sticky about this subject to fore warn this years stragglers (of finding they havnt been paid) and to also warn anyone who may be in this situation next year.0

Hi Smiler,
I am in almost exactly the same situation, my payment on the 3rd was also about a quarter of the normal payment. When I finally got through to the Tax Credit 'helpline' I was told that my next payment is due on 1st October and will be £125 less than my normal payments! I am not sure why my payments will be going down so much and am waiting for the revised award notice to arrive so that I can see if they have made an error. In the meantime I too have no money to live on/feed the kids, thank god the freezer is fairly full.
I am hoping that an 'extra' payment might materialise but not holding my breath, let me know if you receive anything before 1st October.
Good luck
