now I have a new icon........acquiring network address......yet i'm still able to get on here.
Sorry.....you must all be fed up with me now. Perhaps I should go back to good old dial up!
  • 3rd time lucky..

Can you get on here when your router is switched off at the mains?

Presumably you don't still have a usb modem plugged into the laptop?
Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time?

not fed up. it's interesting. I haven't got a clue what's going on though.
You don't need to go back to dial up because, worst case, you can connect via LAN which is quicker than th'owd modem.
Just confirm you haven't got any other wires going to your laptop other than the power cord

Eureka!!!! a connection with a WPA-PSK key (only a simple one!)
Fingers crossed the connection lasts this time.....think I might wander round the house to see if it still works!!
think i owe you all a virtual pint!

(maybe I'll tackle the complicated key thingy tomorrow)

    Can't thank you all enough!
