Connect computer to router with Ethernet cable, login to router config pages by clicking here --> http://192.168.0.1 (username is admin, password is password) and disable wireless security and enable SSID broadcast. Disconnect cable and try connecting wirelessly (no network key required).0

Do I need to change the SSID from the name I assigned it during setup. Also would a longer key (the 63 character thingy) solve my problem?0
-
Do I also enable wireless access point?0

Have done this and tried to connect but still asking me for a wep key0 -
now all i get is a window saying please wait while windows connects to the network and a green bar going across the screen.....and then it reverts to available network list, with my network showing as in range, but still has 'Connect' button showing....therefore not connected.
Any advice gratefully received!0 -
In the router page wireless settings, under Wepkey, does passphrase have to be filled in? If so, with what. (My 26 character wep key is in the box below this)0
-
Yes, enable Wireless Access Point, otherwise nothing will be able to connect wirelessly.
With wireless security disabled on router, it doesn't matter if the passphrase is filled in or not as it won't use it. When we get round to enabling wireless security, use WPA-PSK as it's more secure than WEP.
Open Wireless Network Connection Properties - Wireless Networks tab and remove the network from Preferred networks. View Wireless Networks, connect to your wireless network and it shouldn't ask you for the network key.0 -
managed to get a 60 second wireless connection but then when i tried to connect to AOL I got the message
DNS server unavailable - unable to connect
Now I can't get the wireless connection back, so am stuck with a laptop that has to be tied to an ethernet cable.
Am i doing something drastically wrong??? or is there something wrong with the routere/laptop/my brain?????0 -
and my typing........0
