LAN cable is unplugged
when I refresh wireless networks I only get my own showing0 -
could I be connected to someone else's without it showing on my laptop?0

icon on taskbar still has a red cross through it....and yet I'm still able to send these posts. I really am confused now!0

Wait for a post from albatross with some wisdom but otherwise I'd restart as you suggested and see what happens. Think your router setup is OK but will need securing eventuallyApparently I'm 10 years old on MSE. Happy birthday to me...etc0

The only wisdom I can shed is to turn off the router and see if it still connects to the internet. If you have set it to connect to any wireless network in range, it could be a neighbours.Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0

Your ipconfig looks good and indicates that you are connected wirelessly.
Are you using Windows to manage the wireless connection or the Intel software that came with the laptop?0 -
Have just turned off laptop and restarted it. Now i;m connected instantly, with everything saying I am....hooray!!! Now all I need is help with making it secure. This is when i had probs before....so I hope you can help. Thanks to you all for your help so far......I'm really grateful0

Connect to 192.168.0.1
Go to wireless settings
Check WPA-PSK (Wi-Fi Protected Access Pre-Shared Key)
Enter a key (password of your choosing)
[Once you've got the hang of this, you can go to a 63 character key generator web site for a strong key]
Apply
You'll then have to reconnect to the wireless network using your new key
Gud luckApparently I'm 10 years old on MSE. Happy birthday to me...etc0
