    hmm
click on the wireless network icon in the task bar. Disconnect and then reconnect. Does it then still say you're disconnected?
Apparently I'm 10 years old on MSE. Happy birthday to me...etc

when I hover over the wireless icon on taskbar it says
    wireless network connection.
Not connected. Right click here for more details

    and

the wireless network connection window shows the name of my network and it says Not connected at thr right hand side next to a yellow star.
    Then underneath it says
    unsecured wireless network.
The grey button at the bottom of this window says disconnect.

How can i be connected if everything says I'm not??

should I restart my computer and see what happens?
  • Please do this so we can see how you are connected:

Click Start - Run, type in cmd and click OK.

In the new window that's just opened type:

    ipconfig/all > tmp.txt

    and then:

    notepad tmp.txt

Copy and paste contents of Notepad into this thread.
  • Either,

you are connected with a wire,
or you are connected to someone elses network wirelessly
or you are connected to yours wirelessly

Unplug the lan lead if it is still plugged in, then see if you can get here, then unplug the router, and see if you can get here, to prove which one is true. Are you using windows to config the wireless or an application that came with a wireless device?
Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time?
