I couldnt agree more! This thread is a disgrace. There was a time not long ago, where people would be apologetic about causing others inconvenience or damage, and putting it right was your responsibility. The car owner saw it as an opportunity to get it made BETTER then when insurance and officialdom was brought into the mix they backed down

Quite frankly, the car was in the person's DRIVEWAY - private property not public highway. Second Nana didnt do a very good job of supervision really did she?

And all of the ops talk about having no cash and not paying the milkman is a disgrace. If you offered to pay me for fixing my car in stupid installments, I would call the police and report the damage I hope they would prosecute you for wasting their time, it is not a police matter - no crime has been committedand THEN pursue you through the small claims court or claims direct or something similar. The reason would be simple - you think its ok for your daughter to cause problems for me on my own poperty and then pay me back in mars bars and gummi bears? I dont have kids, dont want kids and dont want hassle from YOUR kids. Simple.

Also the attitude on this thread can be summed up as a) everyone seems to know the law - how many are actually lawyers? b) Everyone seems to know the cost of bodyshop repairs c) the consensus is that the perosn whose car was damaged is unreasonable for parking on their own driveway.

Yes accidents happen, but when they do you have ownership of the problem that your kids caused. Dont want to fix it reasonably? I would create a huge problem for you through the courts.the courts would probably have a great laugh at you sueing a child after an accident especialy as OP had said they would pay

I would take this all the way I have to say...............

You sound like a lovely person. Have a nice day. How thoughtful of you to resurrect this thread to let us know how you feel. We were actually wondering.

^^ I think some people are too afraid to stand up and say what they really think..... For sake of being flamed off the forum by "BUT THEY'RE ONLY KIDS!!!" and "WHAT ABOUT THE KID THAT GETS HURT?"
It's called experience and we all learn from experience.

I'll put it into laymans terms for ya'll

If you ring a bell when it's time for your dogs dinner, the dog soon learns to come for dinner when the bell rings.
Now if you ring that bell while smacking it with a baseball bat, soon you won't need the bat to make it run away.

If a child crashed into a neighbours car and gets hurt AND has to pay for at least some of the damage, he probably won't do it again.
But if you give the child treats and say "now please don't go near that car", he's gonna be thinking "yeah whatever".

    Utter Nonsense.....

She crashed into the car by accident simples.... She didn't set out to crash did she? She might have another accident next week.... And when she starts driving may even have another accident in her car....

Have you never done anything by accident?

Yes I have, countless times.... But I paid for and learnt by my mistakes.

You haven't learn't much though have you, Mrs "I would call the police and report the damage". You think the police haven't got enough to do with crime without going to cases where no crime has been commited.

If I crashed a banger into a Ferrari by accident would I not be responsible for that either, you ignorant ninkumpoop?

Are you a legally trained professionsal that can define when a crime has ben committed? I disnt think so, and just to clarify, if my car was damaged on my property and the reposnsible person i.e. the parent of the minor offered to pay in 2 red and one orange smartie a week, I think I would have a successful claim.

You don't need legal training to know no offence has been committed, but actually I am trained I don't know what a "professionsal " is though is it a French word? You seem to be just a loud mouthed boor who spouts about things you know very little about.

The courts would see that the other party had agreed to pay as best they could and it was a small amout in total anyway and award the legal costs against you, so for £30 for someone to repair a scratch you would pay £100s in legal and court fees. You genius you :rotfl::rotfl:
