Daughter fell off bike and scratched neighbours car parked in drive...

It seems to be money, money, money at the moment and I am so upset I could cry
About an hour ago my daughter(4) was riding down the pavement when she went head over heels and fell into a car. The bike has made 2 tiny scratches-no more than 2 inches long.
The owner of the car stormed round to me and I went out to inspect the damage which is very, very minimal.
Now my husband has offered to pay for the damage but we are obviously not flush in the slightest. The car belonged to my neighbours 21 year old daughter who bought the car just a few weeks ago(06 plate Fiat Punto).
We have very basic home insurance which I doubt will cover it but what the hell do I do if she brings me a quote for hundreds???
What has hacked me off is there was no concern for my daughter who literally went over the handle bars and if she hadnt have been wearing a helmet wouldve been down A&E!!!

If the quote is for hundreds for minor scratches, insist on seeing a second quote!
I'm afraid I'd also be sneaky - if the car is still there, go and get a photo or two of the scratches, so that you have proof of the low level of damage, just in case anything escalates.
I accidentally hit a classic car (Morgan) with my bicycle when I was 10, broke a tail-light. I had to pay £10 from my pocket money towards the damage, and my parents paid the rest. Although it was an accident, I was told I should have been more careful.:heartpuls Mrs Marleyboy :heartpuls

What if it did escalate? Would I not have a leg to stand on??
Really worried!!

Your home contents policy will probably include cover for Personal Liability which would normally extend to your family members. This would pay for claims that you are legally liable for however I suspect you daughter is not legally liable for the damage due to her age (Some Insurers will still pay claims that you are not legally liable for)0

Sell the one that did the damage..:D0 -
It's a scratch on a bit of metal. Two tiny scratches in the paint is nothing and won't cost much to repair. Is your daughter ok after her tumble?MF aim 10th December 2020 :j:eek:MFW 2012 no86 OP 0/20000

She was being supervised by her Nana.
She has just learnt to ride her bike and without running alongside her I dont see how it couldve been prevented. She literally wobbled and lost her footing.:rotfl: Big Momma to 5 kids:rotfl:

Assuming you are going to deal with it, if I was you I'd be tempted to get a bit pro-active, google "mobile paint repairs", talk to the owner and find out where & when the car will be available and get someone to go and fix it. You will be able to get a reasonable estimate of the cost over the phone and the owner feels like you are doing something.
It also avoids an insurance claim with all the increased premiums that could entail as two little scratches should be less than £100 to fix0 -
For those sort of scratches you explain, expect a bill of around £50-£200 MAX for the repair, have a look round and get some prices, you could even do it to soften the blow to the owner!
Had it of been me, I'd probs have let it go depending on how much it would cost me to repair, or at the most, ask the person who damaged it to just pay HALF the bill
