I posted on here as its a moneysaving forum.

My kids were all out the front whilst my husband mowed the lawn. Their nana was with them the whole time.

Whatever some of you on here may think I am a very responsible parent. I have addmitted fault and am now worrying about where to find the money.

Nearest open space to ride bikes is over a mile away and I wouldnt feel safe with 5 children crossing a main A road to get there with bikes. I struggling fitting anything in the car apart from the kids(galaxy) so wouldnt be able to fit bikes in the boot.
My only option at present, (until we move) is the garden or the pavement infront of the house.
:rotfl: Big Momma to 5 kids:rotfl:

Well if if its likely to be that amount then they will be seeing it spread over 6 months as its money I simply dont have!

Whatever else you say I can not stop her from peddling fast unless(and as previously stated) I were to run along side her but then I cant stop her falling and controlling the speed of her running?? :D

Then maybe you should take her to the park or your own garden.

Its not very fair that people park on their own drive, get their car damaged & have to fork out for a repair & then get reimbursed in dribs & drabs.

I've had my car scratched by bikes and marked by footballs and no one admitted anything and I just had to pay for the repairs myself, so this really bugs me.
Same here. Marks and scratches appear but noone ever volunteers to pay to correct the fault. If I had to get all the dings and scratches on my car sorted due to other people's ignorance and arrogance it would no doubt cost nearly as much as the car is worth. And from past experience it seems if you stick an alarm on your car to go off when someone causes damage to it, they try all the more to simply get the alarm to go off and get all excited.

Or if you feeling really cynical & manipulative, get tear-stained and grazed daughter to pick some daisies and take them round to the owner to explain that she’s really sorry,

Or if you feeling really cynical & manipulative ask them for their insurance details as your daughter is suffering from pain and injuries and she has told you the vehicle was sticking out the end of their drive and on a public carriageway when it happened.

Not plan A but if they get funny then you can get funny too.
Their car is a 4 year old car - doesnt need to go back to manufacturers bodyshop. Its a £70 smart repair.

OP, try not to take all the comments made within this thread to heart.

Most MSE'rs are here to help but others simply wish to dish out a huge serving of morals, ignore those, specially if you have already eaten.

Whatever your reasons for allowing your daughter to ride her bike on the pavement/ in the street, that is your choice as a parent and no one here can advise you otherwise, it's what you see fit.

Regards the damage, get the owner to have three prices for the damage, then offer to pay the lowest one, and if you can't in full, explain your circumstances and that you will pay over x amount of weeks/months.

Being you have a child, they should accept your offer, although you and the owner would have rather the damage was never caused but it has been, but this will sort it, in time.

Your daughter isn't to blame, she is 4 years old, nor are you.
It's one of those things us parents have to sort out from time to time.

I hope you manage to sort it without to much trouble.

I would dispute that. While the car's mechanicals may no longer be under warranty (if 3 years) the car will still have a paint and corrosion warranty, which requires work to be done properly in order to maintain. Imagine having issues in a few more years that could have been repaired under warranty that get refused due to a cheap smart repair.

If something is damaged the obligation is to restore it to it's original state, not to do a cheap bodge. If they start asking for a new car or a new bumper, *THEN* they're going a bit over the top.
  • Worth mentioning.....Chances are main dealers will sub small work such as scratches and dents out to the likes of chips away anyway with a fair bit added on top....

What the !!!! has age got to do with it?
It's still a 5-6k car; why should the daughter who probably has spent a lot on the car lose out because the OP is too !!!!ing lazy to take their children to the park?

I wouldnt want a cheap job done on my car regardless of age because come time to sell it; I would probably lose money due to this.

If I was the neighbour and the OP starts that crap I would be doing a couple of hundred quid worth of damage to their property tonight.

OP it is your child; your error; pay up a reasonable quote to fix it and move on and in future control your children.

Your swearing isn't needed or called for, although I'm glad to see the filtering on this forum is working well in your post.

Children do things, the OP is controlling their daughter, what a rude remark to make - unless you can offer advice that helps the OP< refrain from the moral high, eh?!

First of all, good that your daughter is not injured. Shame on the idoit for not asking after here, but more interested in a few scratches.

First of all, have no concern that you wiill be liable for hundreds. Only you decide how much you settle on paying. All of it, some or none.

I would do as suggested, get a photo and ask a few local bodyshops for a quote. It may be worth trying T-Cut. Offer no more than £100 which should cover the cost of the repair.

Some of the comments on here are laughable.

I'm amazed anyway by many posters in this thread, as another user said, even though we pay car tax and road insurance and have the car MOT'd, we have no right parking in the street without any damaging being caused to our cars, may be people should offer there option on that comment another user made?!

Op has a 4 year old daughter, kids pay, they are allowed to and it's there right too.
4 year old does not know how much the damage would cost to repair or what trouble it has caused.

The mother (OP) cannot be expected to watch her child everyday, and playing in the street use to be safe as well as allowed, so all this negitive feedback to the OP not 'controlling her daughter' is not only unhelpful but not helping the matter in being resolved.

None of us are perfect, but people do like to dish out the moral highs here, I ask those people to re read the forum rules - BE NICE TO ALL MONEY SAVERS
