Daughter fell off bike and scratched neighbours car parked in drive...

If they crashed into your car would you let them do a quick fix? Would you hell
I would claim off their insurance. Oh wait, it wasn't a crash; a small child on a bike scuffed the paint.
If a child put a few tiny scratches on a car would I
a) polish them out and get on with my life or
b)would I hunt down the parents and demand a full re-spray so they could not afford to eat for 4 months?
a) please!
On the other hand, a well known speedy greedy quick exhaust fitting company, we'll call them Kwat Fat, fitted the wrong size exhaust to my car which burnt a whole in my bumper. I wouldn't them them do a Kwik fix to it - because I was paying them £400 for an exhaust. They quite rightly paid for a new bumper.
If they are that bothered, they can get their insurance to pay and they can persue a 4 year old for the moneyPlease note: I am NOT Martin Lewis, just somebody else called Martyn that likes money saving!0 -
You should accept this; Chips away arent too bad but they are not a complete professional repair; it is a cheap option taken by people.
For example if the car is on PCP/Lease a chipsaway repair may not pass the return checks etc; or if its under a bodywork warranty it may negate that.
Not true. Even dealers/Leasing companies do smart repairs on cars. It is a normal way of operating.
Also worth being aware that they have a responsibility to mitigage your losses ( therefore not cause you excess cost when it isn't necessary)0 -

Which is of course your right.
But, as generally neither a four year old or her parents can be legally pursued for the costs you could well end up funding it yourself or via your insurance company0 -
Thank you.
Like I have said I am quite willing to pay but simply dont have £300 lying around and it would take me a few months to pay it in full but I can see that causing problems.
I dont have expensive belongings to sell to raise funds and am unwilling to get a creditcard or a loan when I am already struggling to stay afloat.:rotfl: Big Momma to 5 kids:rotfl:

All good points and all reasons why you got to hate people who think you can get away with a cheap repair. Although we don't know the exact circumstances here, something like scratchx may well cure it - it certainly wouldn't make it worse. Some scratches look worse than they actually are.0 -
my sister had a similar problem when my nephew scratched a clio's bonnet with his bike.. i just happened to be in the bodyshop when the bloke came in to get a qoute ( i knew the lad who owned the bodyshop) who said he wanted an itemised reciept so he could claim it back.. (reciept showed something like £209.98 iirc) but in reality he did it as a cash job for £100 for a respray of the bonnet.
needless to say the bloke was never paid for trying to scam another 109 out of my sister when i confronted him about it he didnt know where to put his face.. i told the bloke to try a small claims claim and see what the judge thinks when i bring my mate as a witness to the fact he only paid 100 and tried to scam 209 out of my sister.. he hasnt been seen since lol..
as a cash job dependant on the scratch my local shop does a panal respray for circa 80 -120 dependant on the panel scratched..
if shes going into FIAT (on a 5 year old car ?? ) it could cost £300 easy.. tell her to sod off and get a local bodyshop to qoute..Sealed pot challenger # 10

Hi
If it was my car, I would be furious regardless of the age of the car or time of ownership. I agree that your daughter should not be learning to ride her bike on a pavement (isn't cycling on pavement banned for safety reasons anyway?) and should be in a park which is much safer for everyone.
I would expect you to pay in full straight away, why should the neighbour provide you free credit. Borrow the money on a 0% credit card and you have months to pay it, no problem.
Kids are always playing in the cul de sac where I live, I don't understand why, there are at least 4 grassed areas including a massive park within 5 minutes walk. Yet every day they play in the road. I won't allow my children to do so as I don't want the risk to them or the liability to others this could cause.
I've had my car scratched by bikes and marked by footballs and no one admitted anything and I just had to pay for the repairs myself, so this really bugs me.

Have no chance of even being given a creditcard with my history(even hubby tried a few months back and was declined).
Could possibly get a high interest rate one(vanquis/capital one??) but will not get myself further into debt with the charges and interest.
She will simply have to accept repayments and I will have to deal with being the shame of the close!:rotfl: Big Momma to 5 kids:rotfl:

I can't believe some of the comments on here.
Of course drivers should be able to park without their car being scratched - driveway, road, wherever. Why should they pay for repairs for someone elses accident!
I'd be fuming if that happened to me, cars are expensive and people should have respect for others property. Not buying unnecessary toiletries 2024 26/53 UU, 25 IN0
