Mer is my weapon of choice. Not only does it polish a car like new, but it leaves behind a fairly scratch resistant barrier.

I wonder if the young lady had scratched her car on a hedge, if she would persue the owner to get compo.

If you scratch your car on a bush or hedge you can't claim from anyone else because you have driven your car into that bush/hedge.

If the mark is down to the primer then I fail to see how t-cut (or similar) is going to make it vanish. For scratches that are not down to the primer its fine. Anything else is going to need paint.

Chipsaway/Dentmaster would be my choice for a spot repair. There is no point taking it to a bodyshop to get the bumper sprayed as it would have to be blown down the side of the car to blend it for a good paint match.

    Depends.

On one of the routes I take to work, I can be in the exact centre of the road and the hedges on both sides scraping the paintwork. Eventually the council trim them back a bit but they just end up overgrown again.

I know I drive down those sort of roads:(

My point being you still drive into them, they don't move to hit you.

My point was it's unavoidable and is caused my lack of maintenance, not because you drove into a hedge.

Yes I know you can take an alternate route rather than go through an overgrown section, but by the time you actually encounter said section, you're looking at about half a mile of reversing, which may well cause some aggro from the person behind you.

These days I just try to avoid that sort of road completely when I'm not in the works car.

    Can I just say.......

I F**KING HATE WHEN KIDS PLAY NEXT TO MY DAMN CAR!!!

AND they NEVER bloody play around their own parents cars!!!!!
It's always kids from 15 doors down the road!!

When I was a kid I knew not to go near anyone else's car, I knew I'd get a good lamping off my mum if I did ANY damage at all.

3 Years ago my pride and joy got used as a "base" at my ex's, the kids (aged 6 to 10) were from literally 10 doors away.... They decided that it was a great idea to throw half house bricks at eachother to see how good their base was!!!

More recently ive had to go outside no less than 3 times to tell the kids from in my own street to stop throwing stones!!! I got the comment shouted at me "they're just kids" from the mother down the street, to which I responded by pointing out my CCTV camera and saying "That's great, so let them be just kids next to your own f*cking car!"

  • a lot of the posts in this thread sum up the mentality of a lot of folk in this country

    ITs not my fault

    what about me

    me me me me

sod everyone else and their property, what about my feelings

Kids fall off bikes all the time, its part of growing up as is taking responsibility, if they say its going to cost X, thats the cost, they are not making anything from it

car owner is only asking to have their (new to them) car put right

    jeepers

I couldnt agree more! This thread is a disgrace. There was a time not long ago, where people would be apologetic about causing others inconvenience or damage, and putting it right was your responsibility.

Quite frankly, the car was in the person's DRIVEWAY - private property not public highway. Second Nana didnt do a very good job of supervision really did she?

And all of the ops talk about having no cash and not paying the milkman is a disgrace. If you offered to pay me for fixing my car in stupid installments, I would call the police and report the damage and THEN pursue you through the small claims court or claims direct or something similar. The reason would be simple - you think its ok for your daughter to cause problems for me on my own poperty and then pay me back in mars bars and gummi bears? I dont have kids, dont want kids and dont want hassle from YOUR kids. Simple.

Also the attitude on this thread can be summed up as a) everyone seems to know the law - how many are actually lawyers? b) Everyone seems to know the cost of bodyshop repairs c) the consensus is that the perosn whose car was damaged is unreasonable for parking on their own driveway.

Yes accidents happen, but when they do you have ownership of the problem that your kids caused. Dont want to fix it reasonably? I would create a huge problem for you through the courts.

I would take this all the way I have to say...............

They did.........a couple of weeks ago in fact........:D

All the way IRC to the realisation that a bottle of T-cut and a few quids for a freinds graft would suffice.

^^ I think some people are too afraid to stand up and say what they really think..... For sake of being flamed off the forum by "BUT THEY'RE ONLY KIDS!!!" and "WHAT ABOUT THE KID THAT GETS HURT?"
It's called experience and we all learn from experience.

I'll put it into laymans terms for ya'll

If you ring a bell when it's time for your dogs dinner, the dog soon learns to come for dinner when the bell rings.
Now if you ring that bell while smacking it with a baseball bat, soon you won't need the bat to make it run away.

If a child crashed into a neighbours car and gets hurt AND has to pay for at least some of the damage, he probably won't do it again.
But if you give the child treats and say "now please don't go near that car", he's gonna be thinking "yeah whatever".
