The rules are stupid, of course you must have a ticket to travel, but to rely on a child to tell their parents is absurd, also just because a child has money doesn't mean they earned it ! And you are making assumptions here on this child's ability to pay for a ticket, if she has no money on her or not enough how would they pay ? The rules are not stupid at all. are you now saying that i can walk into tesco and take whatever i want without paying because i think the shoplifting rules are stupid?

Which brings me to the next point, why are there not barriers to prevent people from boarding the metro without a ticket ? Is it because the companies involved don't want the expense and the cash cow they have with this?Cash cow? your obsessed with saying this all the time. Its a business trying to make its money and not being done out of their rightful money by fare dodging kids and there will be barriers going in at the city centre stations again though not at the outer stations as its logistically impossible.

And I don't think the same rules apply to parking, i'm giving an example of penalty charges from councils, they are often flawed and can be appealed, the op must have thought this penalty could have been flawed for giving it to a child without informing the parents.Yes but as i mentioned that there are no flaws in the penalty fare system as its very plain and simple to understand. You have no ticket you get a penalty fare. Her daughter being under 16 has no bearing on it at all as she is of the age of criminal responsibility

People looking at this objectively without the obvious bias you have will see that the rules should be changed, perhaps your perspective of this is as flawed as the system of fining children without telling the parent ?

Why on earth should the rules be changed. They really could not be simpler and im amazed that i am having to repeat myself to you. Just because she was under the age of 16 doesn't mean that she is not responsible for her actions. It was up to her not to tell her parents and now she is finding out to her cost that this was the wrong thing to do.

Yes of course its simple fine a child then some weeks later send a letter saying your child didn't pay now there is a charge on top, fyi I am not obsessed by the cash cow comment because that is the first time i've mentioned it ! The tesco comment is completely irrelevant as that would be theft !

Putting barriers up is logisitically impossible, balls ! its just the companies will not do it, kinda like the pro clampers saying clamping is the only effective way to control parking, you put barriers up and most of the fare dodging will go, like your job I suppose.

The fact is the penalty charge is delivered some weeks after, just like ppc theat-o-gram and it has no option to appeal except in the courts, sounds like a cash cow to me as most people will pay that, and you say the system is not flawed, really that is a first, a completely fool proof system that works, it must be so satisfying to work in such a company

They are all or have been suspended from accessing the DVLA database for gross misconduct!
Do you really need to ask what kind of people run parking companies?

    I've been Money Tipped!
I'm disappointed that some of you seem to be using this as a place to play "my d*cks bigger than yours". Grow up !!!!!! or use the PM system then we don't have to read your drivel.

As for the original post, yes, as others have said, they're well within their rights to ask for these charges and my own advice would be to pay them and make sure your daughter knows how much it just cost you, (how you do that is your choice). She will learn a valuable lesson.

  • Wow, a keyboard warrior of my very own. How nice. I would suggest your energies would be better devoted to saving to pay your fare dodging daughters fine (we only have your word for it she bought a ticket).

The Photo is not me. You need to realise people do not use pictures of themselves as Avatars. So when you see a post from someone with a Cpt Kirk avatar that does not mean that poster is Kirk. HTH. Actually my avatar is the late, great, Clement Freud. Not that I would expect you to know who he is but it is not me and does not resemble me.

:T There you go again. So I now have a fare dodging daughter do I? Please do not judge somebody you know nothing about!! Thank god the world is filled with all types of characters or it would be so dull. Imagine if they were all like you, stupid and ignorant, wouldn't that be fun.

There was me waiting for someone famous (pic ) and I was going to beg them to add me to their friends list on facebook. Oh well, that is not going to happen now is it.:D

You do have a fare dodging daughter. That fact is not in dispute.

I will ignore your personal insults. You just do not like being told what you do not want to hear. Bad luck.

Your daughter needs to pay up and learn a valuable lesson in life.

you really do not understand law do you... she did not have a valid ticket for her journey. She did not pay the fine on time so she has to pay the extra penalty.. This thing has been enshrined in law for at least the last 20 years and no one has ever successfully got away with it.

At what point do you think that the LAW could be bypassed? the penalty fare was given to her daughter and she hid it from her family. They have now been hit by a further surcharge which is fully endorsed by LAW for her to pay.

this is a money saving website - It is not a rule to try and not pay the fares that are imposed - penalty or otherwise
    .

and if you have ever been to places like Percy main and the like then you would realise that barriers at them stations are impracticable and would involve in more staff to enforce them and thus raising prices for the journeys from the public and then folk would get angry at paying more.

Sometimes ignorance is bliss... not for you eh love

too many people on 8here would like to be able to not pay a penalty or do not like the advice.. the real world doesn't factor into that.. which is a shame

Also taffy056 just where does it state in life that you can break the law? Id love it if you could find me a bit of British legislation - even worldwide - where it says you can break the law..

i await your answer to this question with baited breath.

Okbviously you are missing the point here, I'm not endorsing breaking the law, what i'm saying is that the rules are an a**e where this concerned, they need to be changed to involve the parents straight away when such things occur, i'm sorry its beyond your comprehension , but for someone looking at this without the bias , they can see yes its unlawful not to have a ticket, but to rely on a child to do the right thing speaks to me of flawed system, and by the way just because its been in place for many years it doesn't make it perfect !
