It would appear that if your daughter didn't tell you then she appears to not have a great deal of faith or trust in your reaction. Only you can sort that problem out.

And for your feeling about replies, I have one daughter of 16 and one of 21 but at least both of them trust both myself and my wife sufficiently to talk to us.

Of course they do. Another set of perfect parents bringing up perfect children. Dont make me laugh. They trust you with what they want you to know not what they dont want you to know.

My daughter talks to hemr mum and me a lot, but not about everything. Can you not remember what you were like as kids.

Oh yeah, I forgot, perfect. :T

Is this a criminal or civil matter?

Surely it would beclassed under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, in case of the arrest or detention of a young person, the officer in charge must give notice to a parent either orally or in writing as soon as they possibly can under section 26(1),

I doubt that the BTP were called and would question the detention of a minor by railway staff, and they should have taken in consideration her age.
I all have learnt is from others on many sites.
    Seek legal help if unsure.
Dont pay Private Parking tickets - they are mere invoices.

    PRESS THANKS

Well done. By the look of your photo you have obviously never had kids of your own. To label my daughter as a fare dodger because she had no ticket to produce is grossly unfair. She uses the Metro most days and would not willingly choose to travel without a ticket. Also I do not look down my nose at other people for any reason, I treat all people as equals unless they give good reason for me not to. Seeing as you are the latter you remind me of a sad old g*t who has got no life and is 'a billy no mates'. For you to question me to be a bad parent just about sums up the type of judgemental idiot that you are. Still if the silly santa hat fits :rotfl:
PS; if you would like to have a chat face to face just name the place or let me know which store you are working in this December.

Wow, a keyboard warrior of my very own. How nice. I would suggest your energies would be better devoted to saving to pay your fare dodging daughters fine (we only have your word for it she bought a ticket).

The Photo is not me. You need to realise people do not use pictures of themselves as Avatars. So when you see a post from someone with a Cpt Kirk avatar that does not mean that poster is Kirk. HTH. Actually my avatar is the late, great, Clement Freud. Not that I would expect you to know who he is but it is not me and does not resemble me.

you are getting very defensive about this and quite personal to some people too.. I think you dont like the truth. it can hurt.

these are the facts - Your daughter did not produce a valid ticket when asked to by a revenue protection officer. Your daughter got a penalty fare because of this. Your daughter hid this from you and now you have to pay extra because of this. Im sorry to say that you cannot use the excuse that you want to for not paying the extra penalty fare. In my many years on the railway i have never heard of someone getting away with paying the extra penalty fare with that excuse.

Your Daughter is of a legal age old enough for the inspectors not to have to inform you of her penalty fare.

With all niceness - pay the thing and move on..

Maybe so, but at 15 her daughter is still a minor and as such, should have informed her parents, imo.

To me, it looks as if this was a money making racket, ie. tell the parents after they have added the admin fee, although this does not take away the daughters responsibilities to tell her parents.

If her daughter was arrested for any minor crime, the parents would be informed, so what's the difference here when being 'fined'?

The letter should have been addressed to the parents of the child, she is under 16 years old and still a child by the definition of the law, whether or not she can travel on the metro it doesn't alter the fact that the parents should have been told and given a chance to make right.

They are all or have been suspended from accessing the DVLA database for gross misconduct!
Do you really need to ask what kind of people run parking companies?

Another who does not have a clue what they are on about. We wouldn't have to employ inspectors if everyone paid the correct fare for the journey.

Honestly some of you really should think before you type. She did not produce a valid ticket for her journey = Penalty fare. We do not have to inform the parents that we have penalty fared their children. They get a receipt for the penalty fare.

By all means try and be clever and take it to court - I really don't care because i know you will not win. I am not trying to be some big jobsworth on a power trip either. This is the best advice you will get and is the correct advice.Nothing else will work.

    Use it or not.

So you got to rely on child to give the slip to the parent then, where is the sense in that? They may not have to inform the parents, but they must have taken the address details etc from the child, so its not really difficult to inform them, really the rules are an a**e in these kind of cases.

I was once a child and if I thought would get into trouble I would try and cover up with my parents, I learned through growing up the futility of doing so as my parents always seemed to find out, shame that some people on here thinks because of child's silly behaviour that immediately they must be bad parents, you all must be raising little angels and must have been angels yourself ;)

Whether anyone is bringing up little angels is irrelevant and has nothing to do with the facts of the thread.her Daughter got caught with not having a ticket for her journey and got issued with a penalty fare.she chose to ignore it. She now must suffer the consequences like we all do if we do something wrong.
