meatballs - loads of recipes on the web - but I do this:
mince onion & garlic, mix with mince, tomato paste, mustard, and a handful of dried soya mince (helps mixture dry together better than breadcrumbs and gluten free) and squidge into meatballs. Refrigerate til firm (or freeze) Bake at 200 or so - brilliant served in a tomato based sauce0 -

Keema curry? It's mince with peas - usually lamb, I think, but I've used beef before and it works fine. It's obviously dependent on gluten-free curry powder / paste, though, and I don't know how hard that is to get hold of, I'm afraid.
KEEMA* CURRY
Serves 2 to 3
INGREDIENTS
200g of new potatoes
1 clove of garlic
1cm (½ inch) piece of fresh ginger
2 onions
1 tablespoon of oil
1 teaspoon of chilli powder
250g of minced meat
200g (½ a 400g tin) of plum tomatoes**
1 teaspoon of garam masala
½ a teaspoon of turmeric
125ml of water
1 lamb or beef stock cube
50g of peas
METHOD
Wash and scrub the potatoes, and chop them into 1cm (½ inch) pieces. Peel the garlic and chop it into tiny pieces. Peel the ginger and chop it into tiny pieces. Peel the onions and chop them into tiny pieces.
Put the oil into a saucepan on a low heat. Put the chilli powder, garlic, ginger, mince, onions and potatoes into the pan. Cook for about 30 minutes until the mince is an even colour, with no pink bits. Stir frequently to stop it sticking.
Open the tin of tomatoes. Put the juice into a bowl. Chop the tomatoes while they are still in the can (it’s easier than chasing them around the bowl). Put the chopped tomatoes into the bowl. Put half the chopped tomatoes into the pan and save the other half.
Add the garam masala and turmeric. Add the water and stock cube. Add the peas. Stir thoroughly. Continue to cook, stirring as the mixture boils.
Bring to the boil, then turn down the heat until it is just boiling (simmering). Put the lid on the saucepan and cook for 15 minutes. Check the water level from time to time and top up if it starts to dry out.
ADDITIONS & ALTERNATIVES
Lamb is more commonly used in India and Bangladesh. Beef is more commonly used in Pakistan. Use minced pork or turkey instead, whichever is cheapest.
Both the peas and the potatoes are traditional ingredients. You can omit either, but not both. If you omit the potatoes, increase the quantity of mince and peas to compensate. Use fresh, frozen or tinned peas. Use tinned new potatoes.
The quantity of chilli powder above makes for a medium curry. For a hot one, increase this to 1½ teaspoons. For a mild one, add 100ml (½ a 200ml pot) of yoghurt 5 to 10 minutes before the end of cooking. Add ½ a teaspoon of mint sauce to the leftover yoghurt to make some mint raita.
* Keema is Hindi for minced meat and it sounds so much more exotic than ‘Minced Meat Curry’.
** Plum tomatoes can be used either whole or chopped. It is difficult to stick chopped tomatoes back together again if you need to use them whole. The acquisition of wealth is no longer the driving force in my life.0 -

Good morning all, I hope everyone is well on this wet, miserable day! Just a quick question, my hubbie wants something with veggies for lunch today, we have had takeaways for the past few days:eek:, we also want to try and break the weekly visit too the little chef for an olympic breakfast(I know its a massive rip off, unfortunatly it is a habit) anyhoo my question is what can I make with beef mince etc, I don't want to make shepherds pie, I was thinking of something with dumplings! Does anyone have any recipes they can offer? I have until 1.00pm to make something yummy,
Many,many thanks in anticipation.

Meatballs.
500g mince, 1 egg, breadcrumbs from 2 slices of bread (or crush up 4 cream crackers)
Mix everything together, form into balls and brown in a frying pan. Place in a suitable ovenproof dish.
Make gravy with stock or cube.
pour over the meat balls, cover and cook in the oven for an hour. Gas 4/180o.
If you like you can cut up half a white cabbage and put it the dish with the meatballs and gravy (but this needs longer in the oven)
You can also use the meatball recipe to make a meatloaf. Just put the mixture into an oblong dish, cover and cook in the oven for an hour.0 -
Thank you for that yummy sounding recipe horsechestnut, quite like the sound of meatloaf, mmmm why do I never think of these things. I always seem too want to cook the complicated recipes instead of making my life easier and making good wholesome food.

Hi empy,
As your thread has dropped down the Old Style board I've added it to the main thread on using mince to keep the suggestions together.
