    Hi,

My sky deal has recently gone back up to full price(£26) after having it for 50% for a year(I cancelled and got offered a deal later).

I currently have one of the very first(non HD) sky+ boxes and would like to get some kind of HD input to my new HD TV.

    My options are;

    1) Cancel sky and get a Freesat HD box.

    2) Cancel sky and hope they give me a free Sky HD box and another discounted 12month contract.

How likely is option 2 and also do you have to pay extra per month if I only wanted channels in HD which are on freesat.

    Thanks

You can buy cheaply from Ebay, especially as some of the ex-O2/BE customers will cancel after their free 12 months.

You could get it a s some have posted that they have managed to persuade them. They may insist on you taking the HD pack though.

If they don't insist on the HD pack, then yes you would get the free HD channels with no extra charge.

I can't quite work out if this is a good deal or not.....?
I'm currently paying £28 TV variety pack, £7.50 bb and £15 line rental.
I phoned today and they have offered me £1.50 off TV, free bb and line rental of £10 for 12 months. I asked about multi room and they gave me free box and installation for £11.25 per month. If i went this this deal I would be going from £50 to £47.75 per month but with the added multi room.
Does this seem like a good deal? I think not but bf is cracking up at the thought of having to play hard ball and do the cancellation......:o
    Its not a good deal.

Been with Sky for over 15 years now, full TV package, Broadband and phone.

Fibre was put in the village 6 months ago but Sky have decided not to use it. getting dreadful speeds from BB so rang to cancel whole package. Not offered a single thing. Good job Ive decided to go through with the cancellation regardless of what was offered but they must be fed up with people ringing for deals now they have announced their price hike.

    BT here I come
I don't know if I'm getting better or just used to the pain.

I called Sky last week to say that I didn't really need the phone line as I rarely make calls and just seem to get junk ones, and that I was thinking of dropping Sky BB as I've got Virgin too.

They offered me the BB free for a year (saving £5/month), but nothing off the line rental (£16/month).

I then saw the EE/Quidco offer and took that up; it works out at £5/month all-in, after cashback.

The change is due in about a week's time.

    I'm keeping Sky TV though...

not true, my current 50 per cent deal with no contract on my tv, hd and multiscreen allows me to add to my package at the same rate as my current deal.

I added some crappy movie channels (normal price £4), got it for £2 , did not affect my 50 per cent off everything.

Kindly do not call me a liar; it's libellous (and actionable).

It's on the reverse of a "come back to sky" mailshot i received last month. Both the letter & leaflet stated "discount does not apply if you change your package".

I've been without sky for just over 2 weeks now. Similar to you I have one of the first basic sky plus boxes and was paying £49 a month for a package including sports. Was offered a measly £1.50 off per month before cancelling. Once in the 30 day notice period had one call which offered 35% off which was declined. After sky had been switched off, the same day I had the come back to sky 50% off banner online and contacted them via the online chat. They would offer the 50% off any package but would absolutely not budge on a new box. I turned it down and have not had any contact by phone, post or email since. Best they would do was charge £199 for box and £60 installation or 25% off tv and free box.

You could keep an eye out for a HD box on freecycle/freegle.

The town centre pawn shops often have Sky boxes too.

I don't think they called you a liar; they merely pointed out that what you said "Golden Rule – Never change your package in any way when you are on a discounted deal: it would lose you your discount." was not true by virtue of them having done the opposite.
