all depends on how willing you are to play the cancellation game with them.

you maybe (i state with caution) able to get 50% + off from you family, sport + Movies package but you would need to cancel your sky account and see if they give you call from their win back team.

at the moment from what you have written they are not really offering you a proper discount in my eyes. they are just downgrading you and give 10% off. if you think its ok then fine but its all down to what you think its ok for you and if you ok with cancelling sky and perhaps going to someone else

No I think your right, I said I would call them back and they said ill put your information on records.
If im honest I may go down the cancel line and chance it. Be happy to carry on paying what I was on so who know. I live with 2 other people, worse comes to worse can they sign up as they have never signed upto sky before.

Considering your package i think you would be in for a good chance on getting a good deal if you went through the cancellation process. as i would deem you one of the higher paying accounts so retaining you would be important for sky. Let us know how you get on.

as for getting you housemates to sign if you fail i do not think this may work as i am sure when they sign up with the address being the same as cancelled account it may trigger an internal alarm on their system prompting them to state that a sky account was held at the address and they may just re-instate that account rather than give you housemate a new customer account with the deals.

"Internal alarm" or not, if the housemate has a different surname and bank account there is little Sky can or will do to establish if this is the same household.

If such "internal alarms" did sound, no one newly moving into a property previously occupied by a Sky customer would be able to sign up.

You can only accept what is offered, you cannot demand a specific discount.

I actually negotiated a deal last year for free line rental (it wasn't offered I asked) along with a discount on TV which is why Id hoped for that - bottom line is 50% of our package would give a greater discount than 35% & free line rental so we will wait out the 30 days and see what happens..

I don't think it works like that, they can only offer you what they have for your situation. but you cannot determine the discount.

Example: i may have gotten a better deal should i have had LL & BB with them but i didn't plus i do not have sports or movies. So i am aware not all discounts would be viable for me as i have compared to many a very simple small package so they can be limited to what they offer.

also you have to be prepared for disconnection and look at alternatives should your discounts you wished for to not materialize.

    Good luck

Thanks! I am prepared to have the TV cancelled no problem - we have so many DVDs for us and the kids! and we have BT sport separately so Ive sought deals from BT on the Phone and BB to save the £11 or whatever it is a month on BT sport - so I am quite willing to cancel it all if they don't come up with the goods! I know its a waiting game and nothing is guaranteed. Funny what a difference a week can make though - was offered only 10% off last Friday MILS like you, so cancelled and today was called and offer 35% off - so if I were you Id try your hand at the cancellation - I started receiving calls three days ago so only two working days after cancelling if you discount weekend - you can always go back on it if you don't get an offer.

See my post above - last Friday I was offered just 10% off so cancelled and they've been trying to call for 3 days now, 9 or 10 times they've called and today caught me and offered 35% off, so I am sure you'd get offered something, but of course nothing is guaranteed.

The MSE forum members have been brilliant again :money::T. went online this morning

Out of interest, how long did it take to actually get connected through webchat? Did you first get the usual busy sign?

yes, you must follow through with cancellations to get the discount.

Do you have to do that right through to the 30 day cancellation period ending and if so did you need to pay a reconnection fee to be set back for line rental?
  • I have recently been successful in getting my sky package down to £13.65 per month! This is for the phone (weekend free calls), unlimited broadband and the family tv package. I am contracted to the phone and broadband for 12 months which I don't mind as it's FREE!

After three 30 min calls I actually cancelled and intended to take out a new contract in my partners name and get the £125 voucher and quidco money but sky emailed me offering me free line rental for 12 months. I called them and on top of that they offered me free broadband and 35% off my tv package.

I was also having probs with my sky plus box so also wangled a free engineer visit. The visit resulted in us getting a hd box and new dish so we now benefit from catch up tv.

    Not bad going me thinks!
