I was also having probs with my sky plus box so also wangled a free engineer visit. The visit resulted in us getting a hd box and new dish so we now benefit from catch up tv.
Not bad going me thinks!

to get 50% off do I need to cancel my whole package? i.e broadband and Tv? Ive just cancelled my tv and they made no offers0

I added the family pack to my 1/2 price deal and it was included in my deal. Moreover I've downgraded and upgraded a few times since I've been on the offer and its never effected the 1/2 price offer. I've been on 1/2 price for around 3 years and made many changes without my offer being effected. I know many who have done the same so I'm not sure where you're getting this from.
One of the benifits sky mentions when u get 1/2 price is the ability to add more channel and still get 1/2 price. I'm not saying they never take away deals but it isn't the norm. Just make sure to always ask if downgrading or upgrading will effect any offers you have. I downgraded sky sports and lost my free BB. I called them up once I realised and got them to put the deal back on(I had to take SS again).
I got it from the Terms & Conditions of my first (mailed) “50% Discount - Come Back to Sky” offer, five years ago. It was spelt out in black and white, in text so huge that one could just read it with the aid of a magnifying glass.
Unlike most, I actually read the Terms & Conditions of things before I contract to them. (You don’t want to be standing in the queue behind me when I rent a car at an airport. )
Having spotted that clause, I raised it with the Sky person when I rang to take up the offer. He sighed, seemingly disappointed that I’d noticed it, and admitted that, yes, the deal was set in stone at the moment it was contracted and that if, subsequently, I made any changes at all to my “package” I would lose the discount immediately. He then added, more genially, that “many people fall foul of that one.”
There have been several threads about it, here, started by posters who made that fatal error unwittingly. There’s this one, for example.
In regard to your "Family Pack" (previously called "Entertainment Extra Plus" Pack), you may also find this thread of interest. (Particularly the part of the Online Chat transcript that is timed 11.34 am.)
It’s never been a problem for me, though. All I want from Sky is the basic (now called “Original”) Pack and the “Legacy HD Pack” combination, with “free” Formula One HD. Only fly in that ointment is that, now, when I cancel, I have to accept the best deal I am offered before termination occurs, so that I don't lose the Legacy HD Pack.
I’m glad you’ve been fortunate but I’d advise you to check the written Terms & Conditions of your own deal.Nothing in all the world is more dangerous than sincere ignorance

After three 30 min calls I actually cancelled and intended to take out a new contract in my partners name and get the £125 voucher and quidco money but sky emailed me offering me free line rental for 12 months. I called them and on top of that they offered me free broadband and 35% off my tv package.
Well done on getting this.
Not sure on your prices though as the Family Pack is £32pm at the moment. 35% discount would see the price as £20.80 and not £13.65 as you said you're getting free Line Rental and free BB.
Are you sure you've got your figures correct? Still great on getting the free LR and BB though.0 -
It's on the reverse of a "Come back to Sky" mailshot I received last month. Both the letter & leaflet stated "Discount does not apply if you change your package".
This is pretty sly of them and would really make me think twice about accepting an offer from them if they didn't state that I could change my package at any time and not have it affect my offer. I upgraded to family a month into my 1/2 price and recieved e-mail confirmation of the upgrade + how many months I had left of 1/2 price.
I think this was put into place to prevent people from taking 1/2 price offers of the original bundle then going online and upgrading to sport/family/movies and getting cashback or other credits. I've been doing this for around 3 years but always over the phone which is maybe why I've never run into this issue. Thanks for letting me know so I don't make the mistake in the future.0 -

If your monthly really is £13.65 then thats way way more than a 35% discount. congrats if thats the case.0 -
I can't quite work out if this is a good deal or not.....?
I'm currently paying £28 TV variety pack, £7.50 bb and £15 line rental.
I phoned today and they have offered me £1.50 off TV, free bb and line rental of £10 for 12 months. I asked about multi room and they gave me free box and installation for £11.25 per month. If i went this this deal I would be going from £50 to £47.75 per month but with the added multi room.
Does this seem like a good deal? I think not but bf is cracking up at the thought of having to play hard ball and do the cancellation......:o0 -
Be extremely careful. You are at grave risk of falling into Sky's notorious "Elephant Trap".
The 50% discounted deal to which you signed up is what Sky calls your "package". If you had opted for the HD pack (discounted or otherwise) from the outset of your deal, the HD pack would have been included in your "package". But you did not. And, buried deep in the tiny print of the Terms & Conditions of your discount deal is a short but lethal sentence which states that if you change your package your discount will cease with immediate effect.
Sky, moreover, never budges on its requirement that upgrading to the HD pack locks you into your contract for a further year.
So, if you upgrade to the HD pack now, or later, you will have "changed your package": you will lose your 50% discount immediately and be locked into your contract, at full price, for the following 12 months.
Golden Rule – Never change your package in any way when you are on a discounted deal: it would lose you your discount.
not true, my current 50 per cent deal with no contract on my tv, hd and multiscreen allows me to add to my package at the same rate as my current deal.
i added some crappy movie channels (normal price £4), got it for £2 , did not affect my 50 per cent off everything.0
