Sky, Virgin & BT TV Haggle down prices and get serious discounts Article Discussion

I've been without sky for just over 2 weeks now. Similar to you I have one of the first basic sky plus boxes and was paying £49 a month for a package including sports. Was offered a measly £1.50 off per month before cancelling. Once in the 30 day notice period had one call which offered 35% off which was declined. After sky had been switched off, the same day I had the come back to sky 50% off banner online and contacted them via the online chat. They would offer the 50% off any package but would absolutely not budge on a new box. I turned it down and have not had any contact by phone, post or email since. Best they would do was charge £199 for box and £60 installation or 25% off tv and free box.
If you're willing to upgrade to the family pack then you would get a new free HD box as you've never had one before. Least thats what it says on the website. I managed to get a new 2TB box from them for £49 by taking the family pack even though I already had a Sky+ HD box so give them a call if your willing to do that as they'll have to comply with their own terms.0 -
I don't think they called you a liar; they merely pointed out that what you said "Golden Rule – Never change your package in any way when you are on a discounted deal: it would lose you your discount." was not true by virtue of them having done the opposite.
You missed thewith which my posting commenced. (It was a clue.)
Nevertheless, and as others have found to their considerable cost, it’s better to be safe than very expensively sorry on this one – and, having, myself, received from Sky the very same letter and Terms as pen1, I feel it’s a wise Golden Rule to which to adhere. The words “Discount does not apply if you change your package” are unequivocal; there’s no wriggle-room in them.
What marco806 should, of course, have written was that he considered my rule to be incorrect, not that it was “untrue”. I felt he deserved a bark. Truth and accuracy are different things.
But one is dealing with somebody who has made (so far) 12 postings, not one of which has anyone thought merited a “Thanks”, and who thinks he is receiving Sky TV without being in a contract with Sky.Nothing in all the world is more dangerous than sincere ignorance

Just got this. Filled it in. Wonder if it will result in some offers. I added that I didn't want to leave Sky and that I'd hope for fibre broadband and family pack for under £45 to match Virgins offer.
Likelihood of a new offer... Highly unlikely.

You weren't lying but what you said was not true (ie. untrue).

I think Marco ment that he wasn't in a 12 month contract and only needed to give 30 days notice to cancel which most who got deals from sky over the phone also stated as long as they didn't take the HD package. I also had 1/2 price for 12 months while only being on a 30 day rolling until I decided to take the family pack.
To be fair you did make a sweeping statement as fact which we have proven to be untrue( not in accordance with fact or reality; false or incorrect) so I don't think he was out of line with what he said.0 -
Offered during sky chat:
Sky Original TV package,
Fibre broadband
Line rental
£100 vouchers
Total £38.80 first 6 months and £48.80 thereafter.
Not sure if I'll take it or not. It's more than I can afford to pay. My budget is £35 but perhaps that is a good deal?0 -
What I meant was, is it worth the stretch in budget?0
