I'm not sure on how to play it with Sky seeing as I'm a new customer and not a customer looking to cancel. Do you think we could get them down a little or get them to thrown in an extra?

No harm in calling them to ask or use the live chat feature on the website. If they can't offer anything better than the standard prices, make sure you go through TCB or Quidco instead to get cashback.

New customers get new customer deals. Do you really think Sky will "throw in" extras on top of the free equipment and six months half price etc they already offer?

You'll probably have more "luck" haggling with Virgin, who won't want to lose your parents as existing customers. Expect deals to return to come thick and fast once you actually cancel.

    Hi,

Just took up another sky offer after threatening to cancel.

I'm currently on the full monty. Had a discount for a year and a half, which meant I was paying between £50-60 for HD sport and movies plus talk and broadband. However, after the offers expired this jumped to around £90!!!!

My girlfriend has a mate who works for sky and she gave us a half price TV deal but we found out we couldn't use it as it was for new customers only.

I called up sky and they gave me free broadband (-£7.50) and half price on TV for 3 months. He did some calculations and it brought my bill down to £46.24 a month.

However, this is only for 3 months as the TV deal then runs out (I've committed to a two year contract on the broadband).

He said I could ring up in October to negotiate another deal.

My question is: in October could I theoretically cancel the TV package and get my girfriend to take up the 50% off friends and family deal mentioned above?

Would sky allow different people to have separate contracts at the same address or would I have to keep negotiating rolling TV deals?

    Thanks

If you'll still be contracted to sky bb then no. Sky don't allow more than 1 sky account per household. You should try cancelling the TV deal as many people recieved 50% offers either during the 30 days or just after.

    Hey guys.

I checked how much my parents were paying with Virgin and it turns out it's now, on average £115 a month! That's with the XL tv, 50mb internet, one standard box and one tivo and with Sky Sports.
I thought this was far too much, especially since no one actually uses the extra TV channels. Turns out our contract ended two weeks ago so my Dad rang up, **tried** to cancel and in the end hung up after being offered the same package minus the XL tv and it turns out the guy on the phone knocked off just £2 for being a 'loyal customer'.

Now, with Sky we could get standard TV, Unlimited Internet, two boxes, Sky Sports for £60 then £80 after 6 months. This was online as I'm yet to ring them up.

Any advice on what to do next? I'm thinking of ringing up Virgin myself on behalf of my Dad and ignoring any offers until they let us cancel. I'm not sure on how to play it with Sky seeing as I'm a new customer and not a customer looking to cancel. Do you think we could get them down a little or get them to thrown in an extra?

There are 1/2 price for 12 month vouchers out there. Vouchercodes has one that expires on the 17th. Could also add free BB for 12 or 24 months which would bring your monthy down to £38.4. Also Check Quidco or Topcashback to try and bundle all the deals together.

That voucher code is great! It's a shame it ends on friday but I'll look out for more.

Took me an hour but I managed to cancel the package, so 30 days left.

As I said earlier, expect Virgin retentions to be in touch with you soon. If you get a better deal, surely it's better to stay with the same supplier and save on all the upheaval involved with the new equipment and installation?

Yes, it is. The guy on the phone offered to reduce it to £83 without the HD but as you said, I'll be pestered with calls soon.

With Sky, It's £67.65 for 12 months and £108.65 after that, working out at around £81 a month for the 18 months, minus the price increase. That's for the the whole lot, movies, sports, HD, multiscreen etc. Not that they'll need all that once I move out later this year.

Went out to speak to a Virgin engineer who just so happed to be parked outside the house about Virgin cable connection. Nice guy who took my details in order to provide me with a mates rate.. Someone is going to call me tonight.

£50 for XL tv which includes BT Sport, 152mb broadband and line rental and TiVo 500mb. Big Kahoona bundle.

    Might just take it. Hmmm

The offers they can make do change and there are no rules set in stone. When many of us were negotiating transferring from O2 the offered credit to our accounts varied. It stayed the same for weeks and then changed.

The Big Kahoona is available on Virgin's website, where the price is £25 + line rental (ie £40.99) for 6 months , then £45 +line rental (ie £60.99). An average of £50.99 over the year, making £50 not much of a 'mate's rate'.
