Up until a year or so ago, I would have said it has been years since I was asked for ID but then in the last year, I have been asked to prove my age for a certificate 15 DVD and for buying ciggies (not for me, for a neighbour who couldn't get out due to illness).

Now, I am 40, at a push I could possibly pass for someone mid 30's (well in my mind anyway), so my reaction has always been one of mirth rather than being indignant...I usually say to them "Do you honestly think I look less than 25? 35 maybe but certainly not 25!" whilst having a fit of the giggles.

Or maybe I look younger than I think I do......nah!:rotfl:
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.

I'm 30 and at the time had my nearly 12 year old daughter with me. My husband had gone to take the shopping to the car so just grabbing £10 out of my purse I went to the cigs counter (not for me) daughter wanted to buy a magazine. There was a queue I waited my turn, asked for 20 whatevers and was asked to produce ID. Well, the look on my face must have said it all as I grabbed DD and asked her to tell the nice man who I am and how old I am. He still wouldn't accept it so I sent DD to get DH. Meanwhile the queue was ever growing. DH couldn't believe it and to top it all off he didn't bring my bag so I could show him I am actually 30. DH ended up paying for the cigs himself, funny though how they didn't ask him for ID! Must have been his stubble that gave that away. Maybe I need stubble lol.

All in all I think it's good practise to ID people but I think the "think 25" might be slightly OTT.

Exactly. I just left a week's worth of shopping on the conveyer belt as I wasn't allowed to buy a 125ml bottle of white wine to make a risotto with (had risotto rice, parmesan, etc also in my trolley). Was able to provide ID (SIA license; you need to be 18 to have any, 21 for the one I have) and was told as it didn't prove I'm over 25, I can't have the wine. Madness. I was 24 at the time and told them so. I wish they had more common sense.

I would love to be able to do that but DH would kill me if I had to go do another shop because I got ID'd, although he gets ID'd too, hes 27 everytime he goes for some cigs at our local shop he takes his driving license with him, they never ask him when he has it, but you can guarantee if he doesn't take it he gets asked.

I nipped into Sainsburys for a box of John Smiths for my FIL (for his birthday) the other week, got to the till, the woman said are you old enough for that, then asked me for ID, which I didn't have on me, when I said just leave it then, she said are you coming back for it? I just looked at her and laughed.

I am 33. I still get ID'd. It really, really annoys me  and it is very embarrassing :o. 15 years after my 18th birthday (and I do believe you must be 18 or over to buy alcohol in Scotland) I still have to carry ID with me. I am told I look younger than my age but people guess 27 which is still older than the "think 25" thing. Also, I don't get the whole think 25 thing. As I said, I believe you have to be 18 or over to buy alcohol in Scotland and there is no way I would pass for 17 so clearly I am old enough to buy alcohol. It would really help if the person asking said in a fairly loud voice "oh, you are 33 (I don't mind people knowing my age) I am so sorry, I thought you were about 17" and that way everyone could have a laugh.

i work in a bookies and we have to ask anyone that 'appears' to look under 21. It is very very hard sometimes to guess someones age. And they also send out people that look some where around the 18/19 age to make sure we are 1d'ing people that look under 21 but over 18. We get sent on courses and get reminder stickers and posters and loads of other stuff. Cause if we do serve an underage person we can lose our jobs and the bookies could worse case lose their licence. My oldest so far is 37:eek:

I'm on the other side too and have to ask for the ID. yes I know it can be annoying, but it really is hard to determine peoples age. Any age restricted product, be it paracetamol, dvd's, magazines etc etc etc, if the buyer looks under 25 then we have to ask for ID.

The consequences for the workers are an on the spot fine, possible dismissal, and a probable criminal record.
The amount of people that have had a go at me for asking for ID is unbelievable. So please understand where the asker is coming from (and yes I know some are over zealous) and why we have to ask.
This is the bit people don't seem to get.
Yes it's a nuisance - but do you really want someone to lose their job?

Considering how much companies spend advertising products to conceal/reverse the signs of ageing, not to mention the cosmetic surgery industry I am amazed at the people who seem to be desperate to look old.

I don't know about anyone else but I'm not desperate to look old. I am 33. I am not old. A bit of common sense from people asking for ID wouldn't go amiss.

I got ID'd in Netto on Friday :D Made my day!!! When I showed the lady on the till my Passport showing I was 31 last week she simply said "Impressive" I chuckled for a good few hours!

If I worked in a booze shop I'd ID people who were older & looked a little sad/down just to cheer them up lol
Wondering how to have a life & not rack up more debts...
