Anyone else still getting ID'd?

Even if we know you we still have to ask as there could be a trading standards/police officer standing right behind you and they'd be pretty quick off the mark to record it. I know its rubbish but thats the way it has to be.
Personally I would love to be ID'd but don't think thats gonna happen anytime soon!!!!0 -
I got id d last year at 28 in the supermarket buying beer for a party. I was in fancy dress as matilda from the film Leon though!Debt free as of July 2010 :j

I'm 5"2 and a size 6, so very petite, and while being 20 I can understand being ID'd for alcohol/clubs/pubs. I've been ID'd for a lottery ticket recently (didn't have anything on me, as I had just decided to 'stick one on' while I was there- I was only going round for milk) which was quite embarrassing- I've not been back in.
I have also been asked how old I was, and 'was this my card?' (I was paying with chip and pin debit card) as apparently I had to be at least over 12 to use it and no I couldn't use my mums card!!! This was on my 20th birthday when I was buying bits and bobs in home bargains (not sure I'd be spending my pocket money on air fresheners, cleaning products and mouthwash if I was under 12!!)
If you want to avoid it though I have found it helps to look them straight in the eye and speak with confidence, as if you never get asked for ID.
I find it is only when I do look the person at the till/bouncers in the eye that I get asked. If I just ignore the person on the till and allow my OH (21, although gets mistaken for being about 30) to deal with paying then I often don't get given a second glance (maybe they think I'm the 12 year old daughter..).
Although in Tesco recently, myself and OH were in buying his mother a bottle of champagne (she is recently engaged) and we had OH's 7yr old sister with us after taking her out for the day. Neither of us were asked for ID despite both being under 25 and with "Think 25" plastered all over the till area. We walked away laughing at how she wasn't very good at her job considering she didn't give either of us a second glance and scanned the alcohol through and took payment.
So sometimes I look pre 12 and sometimes I look old enough to have a seven yr old child!
Edited to add: My OH was refused sale of kitchen knives (along with value pots and pans) in Tesco despite having ID on him, as he was not 25... That one can't be right- considering you can leave home at 16 and have your own house, get married, but the gov won't allow you any kitchen utensils to cook with! This was earlier in the year when we moved into our first place together (I at 20 and he at 21), in the end we went to asda.
I also remember being 17 and being ID' d for a 12 film (when all this think 25 policy was being introduced) It was a cowboy and western film for my dad for fathers day, along with the fathers day card, gift wrap etc. At 17 I didn't have any Id (was saving for a provisional license and had been on my parents passport as a child and hadn't needed one since). I argued that I was 17- had no id... but aside from that, it was a 12, what form of ID would they expect a 12 year old to produce!!! So basically it is impossible to buy a 12, 15 etc in my local morrisons if you are not yet 17/18 with ID, despite actually being old enough legally to buy the film! Again, I've not went back- they don't deserve my money for embarrassing me needlessly like that.0 -
I know I should be flattered too but it really annoys me. I am 30 and noone ever believes me. I am always id'd for EVERYTHING!! When i was late 20's I was asked for Id in homebase!? I looked gone out at the woman and said 'why!!?' I was buying a whole trolley of bedding plants ... She held up the plastic trowel I had thrown into the trolley to put the plants on with .... I was like !!!!!!!!??? I was dressed in my smart work clothes with my car keys in my hand did I look like a 15 yr old????
Next best time was argos when I was 28 buying a set of cutlery for my own house .... Had to show Id for that??!!
I also get stares like people think I'm a young mum.
I wish the 10 years younger programme did a 10 years older programme. I would love to look my age.SAHM Mummy tods (born Oct 2007) and dd (born June 2010)0 -

Maybe they just thought you were both his daughter?
Don't take it to heart though, I know in sainsbury's they have to check everyone who looks under-25, so 24 year olds get checked when they're buying a lottery ticket, or a 12 rated dvd0 -
I've just remembered another stupid time I was asked for Id. When I was late 20's I Went to a pub on a Thursday evening with some collegues from work that I managed. We all walked past bouncers at the door fine. We all wanted to drink coke. I went to the bar and ordered 5 cokes ....... And he asked for ID!? I said 'why?' I then got told 'you have to be 21 to be in here tonight' ...... But surely that was the bouncers job???? My team found it funny that their manager had been ID'd but to make it worse we then went and found a seat and at the next table were about 10 teenagers all obviously underage and definiatly under21!!! And drinking!SAHM Mummy tods (born Oct 2007) and dd (born June 2010)0

I prefer to think we just looked like a nice little familybut thanks for that! hah!
My point was that how can a 12 year old buy a 12 rated film (or likewise 15 year old for 15 rated films) when 12 year olds do not have any valid form of ID? It would be like asking a six year old child to provide ID when buying an action man because of the "suitable from 36months" printed on them.0 -
You will gradually get to see it as a complement! I remember a friend of mine who looked young said to a supermarket checkout girl who questioned her 'Does an under aged drinker usually buy fresh pasta and a jar of pesto along with a bottle of wine'
Exactly. I just left a week's worth of shopping on the conveyer belt as I wasn't allowed to buy a 125ml bottle of white wine to make a risotto with (had risotto rice, parmesan, etc also in my trolley). Was able to provide ID (SIA license; you need to be 18 to have any, 21 for the one I have) and was told as it didn't prove I'm over 25, I can't have the wine. Madness. I was 24 at the time and told them so. I wish they had more common sense.0 -
I only started getting ID'd once I turned 30!Little lady arrived 13/12/110
