I'm 22 and always carry ID. It was very irritating when I was 18 but didn't have a form of ID, but now I have it and keep it on me all the time I don't mind being asked. Especially as many places 'think 25' now.

I'm 5'5, hardly petite but most people I know are a lot taller than me. I do have a bit of a baby face too and wear 'young' clothes. Without makeup on I've been told I could pass for 16.

My boyfriend is 26 and usually never gets asked, but when he lost his ID he was asked constantly. I'm not sure if my favourite time was when he started pleading to a barman saying, "but look at my face, I'm haggard!" or the time he was refused alcohol, and then cigarettes promptly afterwards in Sainsbury's :D

I am nearly 40 and still get asked my age. I am also short and people assume I am just a kid. Ask someone who doesnt know to guess my age and the usual reply varies between 12 and 14 !

A few years ago I was in a pub and was stood next to my hubby who was ordering drinks and the barman asked hubby what he could get for his daughter (looking directly at me)! He often gets mistaken for my 'dad'.

I have even been aproached a few times in other pubs and asked not to hang around the bar area as it is an 'adults only' zone and could I please either go back to the fun factory room or return to my parents in the family zone!

It doesnt stop there either, a friend of my father in laws once asked me what colour fizzy-pop I wanted, orange, red, white, green or black !

Their only doing their job properly and I laugh it off. But I dont get asked for ID in my local shops lol. I actualy still have my old ID card from when I was 18, although its a bit dated now lol.

i work in a bookies and we have to ask anyone that 'appears' to look under 21. It is very very hard sometimes to guess someones age. And they also send out people that look some where around the 18/19 age to make sure we are 1d'ing people that look under 21 but over 18. We get sent on courses and get reminder stickers and posters and loads of other stuff. Cause if we do serve an underage person we can lose our jobs and the bookies could worse case lose their licence. My oldest so far is 37:eek:
Finally debt free, all thanks to this site and all the posters:j

I used to get really embarassed when I got ID'd, especially as a lot of my friends are a few years older than me and find it hilarious! I've just turned 25 and over the last year or so have felt my attitude towards it change as I start to feel older. I now just show my ID with a big smile and say thank you and the usually just-turned-18 year old guy/girl behind the bar looks embarassed!

If you want to avoid it though I have found it helps to look them straight in the eye and speak with confidence, as if you never get asked for ID. I know one day I'll miss it so I'm pleased when it happens now!

I'm 27 and I still get ID'd. When I started uni, all my classmates thought I was 18! And then the woman in Asda thought I was born in 1993 (she checked my ID) so I went to her 'no, its 1983' and embarassed the life outta her.

I'm on the other side too and have to ask for the ID. yes I know it can be annoying, but it really is hard to determine peoples age. Any age restricted product, be it paracetamol, dvd's, magazines etc etc etc, if the buyer looks under 25 then we have to ask for ID.

The consequences for the workers are an on the spot fine, possible dismissal, and a probable criminal record. The amount of people that have had a go at me for asking for ID is unbelievable. So please understand where the asker is coming from (and yes I know some are over zealous) and why we have to ask.

I'm 23 (I look about 16/17 though) and even though i'm still quite young its still frustrating, especially considering when I was 16 (and probably only looked about 11/12), I was going to town and getting into bars without IDed! Its got worse as the years have gone on, I get asked everytime I buy anything with an age restriction on it and quite recently i've been asked ID for a coke in a wetherspoons in the middle of the day!!

My worst experience has to be though when I went to buy a lottery ticket in Tesco last year and the woman asked how old I was and I said 22 and she just laughed in my face...then asked for ID and when I produced it she just laughed it off as a joke. Meanwhile I had the queue of people behind me all listening in on why it was taking so long for me to buy a lottery ticket!! Why would I lie about being 22, surely if I was just on the borderline of being 16, I'd just say 16 not 22!

My best experience however was getting asked ID for a wallpaper scraper...because if I was going to do something dangerous...this definitely would be my weapon of choice...

I totally understand its people's jobs to ask for ID, I just hate the way people handle it on times, with the laughing in your face before seeing your proof that you are actually that age! I regularly ask my OH to go and buy alcohol for us while I sit in the car because he never gets asked if hes on his own but when hes with me they regularly think that hes buying for a minor! Grrr!

Also I can see how supermarkets need to crack down on under age drinking but teens are still managing to get alcohol, they still drink on the streets around here and its exactly the same as when I was a teen, nothing seems to of changes even with all these rules...the teenagers are still getting hold of the alcohol.

Glad theres other people out there in this situation though make me feel like i'm not the only one!

I'm 28 next week and I get ID'd 2 or 3 times a week. It does not bother me one bit. I usually get the apologetic grin from the asker! The other day we did have to leave a pub becasue 3 of 4 of us had ID and the 1 other did not (age 32) but to be honest it's thier loss not ours. I always carry my ID and I really dont see the problem in being asked. I look young and gorgeous clearly! Not a grey hair or wrinkle in sight!

I got ID'd in Tescos the other day... by a woman I used to work with 10 years ago!

That's nothing, when I worked in a supermarket when I was 18, I got ID'd by someone I actually worked with every day! :rotfl: I'd only started a few months earlier so I guess she thought it was my first Saturday job at 16!

I haven't been ID'd since I was 20, kinda wish I would be because I find it flattering!

Had to go out to a breakdown earlier and while mechanic was working on their car I could hear them talking about me "who is the girl?" "oh, she's the driver" "Really?? She doesn't look very old!" :p
