Just open a new account, choosing a branch in Scotland. You'll have to switch the Direct Debits yourself , but it's always best to do that yourself.

Can't open new account - failed standard security checks.

Ask at NatWest if I can switch from RBS and they tell me that normally they have an account switcher service that will sort everything out for me, but they are unsure if they are allowed to use it for RBS customers as they are already with the group. It will take 2-3 weeks to get an answer or I could open an account myself and switch everything personally.

Not sure why they were unclear about the process.

I've switched many from Natwest to RBS. It's a smooth process as the switching department is one and the same.

silvercar, just open a new account yourself online. It's easy and by managing it yourself you know exactly what's happening.

Be careful of that cat or a RBS worker might bin it!

Probably the same place as the NatWest admin centre...
Most of the infrastructure is RBS group rather than RBS or NatWest.

The sort code is attached a RBS admin centre in Bolton , England

Will RBS be retaining any admin centres in England (other than Southend Credit cards) ?

For those people who sent in a Transfer Request Form, RBS have started sending out letters to begin the process to automatically transfer accounts to the chosen Scottish branch.

Have I understood the letter correctly- once accounts have been transfered customers can still use existing chequebooks (and debit cards) even though they have the wrong sort code on them?
