that's brilliant tom. do you know how i can get rbs to move my account to this branch too?

anyone else got ideas about accounts at their mobile branches?

my perfect solution would be, one account at scalloway, one at a mobile branch and one at my local, english, watnest branch.

just had a horrible thought. remember when we all cashed cheques at any branch of any bank for free? remember that they stopped that because it wasn't fair?
what if, after we all move our accounts to scalloway they decide to stop allowing the free use of each others cash machines? we, the english, would end up having to drive to gretna green to be able to use our cards for free ... or pay a Link style fee. beware, the same nutters are still driving the train guys!

  • i think we should all, english rbs account holders, write to them and ask that they transfer our accounts to one of their mobile branches so that after the transfer to satan they can send mobile branches to our homes.
if we all did it, it would show the europeans the strength of our feelings against them having made such a stupid decision. it would also show them that we have found a "italian" style work-around. when the eu ignore us we inundate all of our local MEP's ... even though that would mean me writing to nick griffin.

who it was started by is irrelevant, Hong Kong and Shanghai Banking Corporation was a huge worldwide bank that needed a new home before we handed our colony back to the Chinese. our government at the time, i guess chris patten would have been heavily involved in this, insisted that they moved their HQ to london as a condition of the purchase of the Midland - and it's branch network. it was a marriage of convenience. a formula one driver deciding to live in geneva this year and monaco the next when he gets the real big bucks driving for ferrarii.

as for Standard Chartered Bank, they have always been a UK bank - even though they only have a few branches here. but they are not "similar", i would be very surprised if Chartered would ever consider moving from it's UK home.
btw, i once worked for Chartered Bank.
It was named HSBC when it started up in London. I'm sorry but as far as businesses having nationalities go, HSBC is British. Regardless of where it started, what the name of it was or why it had to change the location of its headquarters to be in London.

If I set up a shop called Spanish Tomatoes Corporation in Madrid, then I put its headquarters in the UK, list it on the LSE and become the biggest firm on the exchange and one of the biggest tomato shops in Britain, it'd be a British tomato shop from then on regardless of the name.

We've not seen too much negativity from the customers if the RBS branch I work at.

I've had to try and keep my own opinions to myself but the average man in the street seems not to care.....

It's not the smallest branch, but one in a really nice location - Scarinish on the Isle of Tiree. It's a long ferry journey (twice or thrice weekly, I believe), but at least you can go surfing while you are there, and one BBC site says it's the UK's sunniest place :D

Just logged into digital banking now and the account I opened online at the Oban Branch has been setup. So now it's showing my old account with a sort code starting with 16-**-** and the new one at the Oban Branch 83-**-**. Not had the debit card or cheque book for the new account as of yet but no doubt they'll come in the next few days.

Just to clarify I've opened a new account with the Scottish branch as well as requesting a transfer. Now I'll start moving the dd's etc from the old account to the new one and by the end of this year close the one in the Welsh branch. Then no details to be transferred over to Satander

I think I posted it a week last Saturday, so it wouldn't have got there much before last Tuesday. So about a week roughly I'd say
  • Hi all, this is my first post so please be gentle with me:) I rang the switching number tonight and they told me the following....the paperwork would be out in the next few days but my account would not be switched for another 12-18 months, pretty much just before Santander take over. When I queried this and told them I wanted it done straight away I was told to ring 08457242424 as they would be able to make the switch straight away. I've just rung the 0845 number and they have told me this isn't possible. Now I'm not sure what to do, do I go back to the switching line and start again?
