The person I spoke to at My RBS branch said that this was not possible when I asked to do this. I was told I would have to open the account at a scottish branch myself and then move DDs etc.. I did press the point like what if I moved to scotland, how would I transfer my account? and they specifically said that there is no internal process which can do account transfers between RBS branches.0 -
There is a procedure to transfer accounts. If you call the number on their website (0800 210 0214) they can arrange to send you the relevant forms. The transfer apparently won't take place til next year.0

Received their generic information letter about the sale today, i called them just a moment ago so i can change to a Scottish account. The 0800 number gives a recorded message and then an advisor comes onto the line if you wait after the message has finished. No huge wait which is good because i was ringing it from my mobile so therefore it's not free. He said the switching form will come out within the next few days but that i shouldn't expect to hear from them for a while once i return it as they keep them piled up until the sale goes through, so it could be 12 - 18 months before my branch changes from an English to a Scottish one.0

For those switching to a Scottish branch, will your sort code change (therefore resulting in you having to contact employers, direct debit payees, etc)?0

Absolute nonsense.
You don't even need to involve the branch as it can be done online.
Not sure why you were told otherwise.
There has be no communications to the branches in line with what you were told.0 -
Is anyone thinking of moving to Santander before it happens automatically? I was going to take advantage of cashback etc. All comments welcome0

Do it for the £100 by all means.
I'm tempted for the cash incentive. You only need to set up one d/d and pay in £1000 for the three months to get it.
I wouldn't want to keep the thing long term though; Santander's reputation for service is abysmal and I hope that once we (I'm RBS staff) are taken over in January 2012 we do not sink to their level.
I suspect we won't initially but as old RBS staff leave/retire I expect our edge to be eroded.
Hence my thoughts to escape whilst I can......0 -

Yes it will, virtually the same as opening a new account with another bank.0 -
Chambta, how can you organise the transfer online? Or are you referring to opening a totally new account to run in tandem until the change? I searched their site a couple of days ago and couldn't find that option.0

It can be done yourself.
Open an account at the branch of your choice.
Give anyone that pays money in the new account details.
Your branch can swap all your direct debits and standing orders over to the new account at your request.0
