Just had the branch transfer request form in the post today.
On the covering envelope, on the address label above my name and address there was a number in the 900's.

Wonder if this means that over 900 account holders have requested a transfer so far ?

I have had my transfer request form come through today and it had 1359 no on my letter makes you wonder if that is the number so far. I reckon there will be loads. Looks like Santander will buy Rbs in England and Wales and have no customers!!!! That will teach them.:D
    It takes two to tango!:rotfl:

My account's at the Crosshill Branch in Glasgow, 83-21-10. It's a nice branch, people should move there to reward them for being so cool :D

And maybe if a lot of people move their accounts there then they'll install one of those pay in machines that counts your notes for you. They're awesome.

Just had the letter which states: sale to Santander of our RBS branches in England and Wales and our NatWest branches in Scotland.

I'm with NatWest in England, but as NatWest is part of RBS and as RBS is - at least partly - being sold to Santander, I want to change.

I disagree with the whole principle of our institutions being sold off to foreigners.

Is there such a thing as an English bank any more? Barclays for example? Or Nationwide?

So what are my options here as I don't want to go with Santander?

Transfer to Natwest? (do I require credit checks for my two overdrafts and credit card?)

    Go to HSBC?

    Maybe go back to Halifax?

If you have a Nat-West account in England, you are safe from Satander.
Nationwide is a Building Society owned by its members so must be about 80% English owned (20% Scots,Welsh and N Irish)
I have a deep burning indifference

Not sure if this was a typo but so funny and so true SATANder is about right.
Having worked for them and seen their legendary customer service from both sides of the counter I will have nothing more to do with them. Although they do have some good products, with them its all about increasing market share at any cost with very little thought given to customer service.
I have called my RBS branch and asked them for forms to transfer my account to Scotland. I have been with them since they were Williams and Glynn and I do not want to be told by the government who I should bank with

Scottish Natwest account will become Santander
Scottish RBS account will stay RBS

You can ask for a form to move your Scottish Natwest account to a branch in England or Wales.

Our banks are mostly foreign even if you think they're English. They're PLCs. HSBC, Barclays, Lloyds Banking Group will undoubtedly have owners from countries all over the world.

So you'll have to go to a Building Society, Co-op/smile, Northern Rock or start buying shares in Santander to make it English.
