TV licence query

I think its probably because they have personal integrity and some moral standards that assist them in living a successful and fulfilling life, its not for everyone though.0 -
After you cancel, you will get loads of letters from TVL. They can be ignored and if an inspector turns-up, they too can be told to get lost as they are now Capita employees and have no authority to enter your property without a warrant and an appropriate officer present to serve it.0

If your TV is detuned and aerial unplugged I can't see what underhand tactics they can use,
I WILL be contacting them and filming the visit on my camera when they come to inspect as I have nothing to hide because I don't watch TV.
I'd prefer things to be above board than in constant receipt of threatening letters.
They can use loads - From vastly overstating their authority to outright intimmidation.
Never, never sign anything they ask you to - not even a "record of visit etc. This van end-up being misapplied in a variety of ways.
Don't bother filming them, simply do not let them in. IME, police can be very slack when it comes to attending any warrant.
If you are sick of the letters, writing to your MP can stem the flow for a while IME.0 -
I really don't see why there is so much confusion about this.
It is pretty damn simple.
If you watch or record live TV on any device, then you need a license.
If you do not, then you do not need a license.
Owning a TV (for the purposes of say a games console) does not equal watching live TV, thus no license needed.
Watching non live shows on iPlayer also does not equal watching live TV, and so again you do not need a license.
No detuning or getting rid of TV sets needed.
They have to physically prove you are watching live TV.
Having a TV set that is not detuned is not evidence (although it may look very dodgy if it is plugged into an aeriel).I presume that those of you who do not pay are also happy for other criminal activity to continue
People who do not pay car tax?
People who avoid income tax etc
To pay if you have the equipment to receive is the law to not pay is against the law if you don't like it get the law changed (obviously one way to do this is by civil disobedence) but till then you have a duty to pay if you have the equipment I just want to know what other laws you don't like you are avoiding your responsabilities on.
Not true at all.
As I said above, owning a device is not equal to using it to watch live broadcasts. Thus a license is not needed just to own it.0 -
In the unlikely event that the TVL turned up with a search warrant and a police officer, would they be able to force entry into the property if no one was home and conduct the search or does the legal occupier have to be physically served the warrant and be present at the time of the search?0

Its all there:

What happens when TV Licensing executes a search warrant?
We exercise search warrants in the presence of police officers. Our policy is that Enquiry Officers will not force entry to an address if the occupier is not at the property. Rather, we would return at another time. We note however that accompanying police officers may themselves force entry if they deem it necessary.
A search warrant does not give rights of forced entry, the police will only enter if allowed by law, ie the believe a crime is in progress etc..0 -

Interesting.
I thought TV Licensing was "Crapita".
If they do, and considering what the concensus of opinion about them is, it must be one of the most depressing jobs ever. The acquisition of wealth is no longer the driving force in my life.0 -

As stated many times before in this thread, you don't need a licence unless you watch or record broadcast television.
You don't need a licence simply for owning equipment. I don't have a licence, I don't need one as I only watch DVDs and videos.
Do you know anything of the law regarding tv licences or did you just comment to be judgemental and accusing of people in order to give you a group of people to look down on?0
