when was the last time they actually saw a tv detector van
That's irrelevant nowadays. They just look up in database which addresses don't have license and simply pester them.Happiness is buying an item and then not checking its price after a month to discover it was reduced further.0 -
being honest i havent botherd with live tv broadcasts for several years
but today after ignoring the usual letters that the tvl send out.I had a visit from one of there agents aged about 20.when he asked if i had a tv i replied yes but it is not used to recieve live broadcasts he then asked what is it used for i replied it was used with a pc (this is true no bull) he then asked if he could come in to check i refused and told him to leave he then threatend that he would return with a search warrant.I saw red and told him i was withdrawing the implied right of access to my property. As he was leaving he said see you later i told him it would take 7 days for them to obtain a search warrant.I then emailed the following to them

To whom it may concern,
I do not require a television licence, as I do not receive or record live television broadcasts. Despite this, I have received multiple letters from your organisation implying that I am committing a criminal offence.
Your employees, and agents acting on your behalf, may not call at my address.

This letter provides you with prior written warning that such a visit will constitute trespass and harassment, and that I am withdrawing the implied right of access to my property from your organisation.
Please note that I am under no obligation to provide you with any of my details, including my name, and that since I am the legal occupier of this property I am entitled to withdraw your implied right of access.
This fact was confirmed by the BBC in June 2009 in response to FOI request RFI20090807. This response states that "TV Licensing does not legally require the name of an individual to action such a request".
Yours sincerely,
The Legal Occupier.

I presume that those of you who do not pay are also happy for other criminal activity to continue
People who do not pay car tax?
People who avoid income tax etc
To pay if you have the equipment to receive is the law to not pay is against the law if you don't like it get the law changed (obviously one way to do this is by civil disobedence) but till then you have a duty to pay if you have the equipment I just want to know what other laws you don't like you are avoiding your responsabilities on.I started with nothing and I am proud to say I still have most of it left.0 -

you only need one if you're using that equipment to watch or record programmes as they're being broadcast0 -
you are not required to have a licence just for owning a tv or other receiving equipment
you only need one if you're using that equipment to watch or record programmes as they're being broadcast
Correct, from TV Licensing's own site;-
"You need to be covered by a valid TV Licence if you watch or record TV as it's being broadcast. This includes the use of devices such as a computer, laptop, mobile phone or DVD/video recorder."
Also from another page ;-
"The law states that you need to be covered by a TV Licence if you watch or record television programmes, on any device, as they're being shown on TV. This includes TVs, computers, mobile phones, games consoles, digital boxes and DVD/VHS recorders.
No TV Licence is needed if you don't use any of these devices to watch or record television programmes as they're being shown on TV - for example, if you use your TV only to watch DVDs or play video games, or you only watch programmes on your computer after they have been shown on TV."
.
My highlighting and colour change.

You don't have to pay VED, (car tax), even if you have a car, as long as it is sorned and off road, as with a tv, owning the car does not make you liable for the tax if you don't use it on the road

this post just shows how bbc/tvl operate=scare tactics and bullying.
if you do have a tv it doesnt matter if it is used to play dvd/cd on or use it as a pc screen or if it is used as a coffee table, the reason they want to enter your house is to say that 'in future you MIGHT/COULD plug it in and watch their product' so they tell you that you need to pay.
a daft scenario but...
if i was sober and had a bottle of whiskey in my car would the police fine me for being over the limit? because technically i could/might drink it next time i am driving the car.
if my broken car was on my driveway with a SORN do i get harrased to tax it? technically i could fix/drive it.
the tv licence is a stealth tax and the bbc will not tell us this.

Except that didn't happen the TVL rep did not say 'in future you MIGHT/COULD plug it in and watch their product' you seem to have made that bit up.0 -

if the tvl person did enter the house he would say that a licence is needed because the pc screen 'could' be used to watch bbc i player.
the word 'tv' is irrelevant..... we are told we need a licence if we have a mobile phone...because we could watch bbc i player on it.
