TV licence query

I don't watch TV but have a TV for watching DVDs and connecting a games console. My TV is detuned and the aerial unplugged. Besides which, in my area analogue switch off happens on 7th September so I will be incapable of watching TV from then onwards anyway. I'm more than happy to invite the TVL person in to check.0

if the tvl person did enter the house he would say that a licence is needed because the pc screen 'could' be used to watch bbc i player.
the word 'tv' is irrelevant..... we are told we need a licence if we have a mobile phone...because we could watch bbc i player on it.
mark.
Your just making that up I'm afraid you have no evidence for that hypothesis.
We are not told we need a licence if we HAVE a mobile phone, we are CLEARLY told we ONLY need a licence to watch or record live broadcast.
There are enough facts regarding TV licence to not need to create non existing complaints to firm your position.0 -
hi kurtis,
the brown tvl letter which i get every 2 months or so says that i need a licence if i have a mobile phone or even a games console.
i am not making anything up! why would i want to?
i dont agree with being told we all need a £145 licence and if the bbc encrypted their service like sky do we would then all have a choice.

I have a question which could render all of this redundant.
Upon searching for various things about the TV Licence, I came across this link:
tpuc . org / stoppayingtvlicencefees (sorry for the spaces and the lack of a www, apparently I'm not allowed to post a link as a new user)
Now I'm no legal bod and know this isn't very well written, BUT it does seem to make sense if the laws and statutes are correct.
Would anybody be able to confirm or deny if the letter would work, or if they have tried it at all? I would be more than happy to be a guinea pig if not...0 -

The letter does not say you need a TV licence if you have a mobile phone or games console. It says you need a TV licence if you watch or record television programmes as they are being shown on TV, and goes on to list devices you can use to do that.
Why are you [STRIKE]lying[/STRIKE] making things up? Perhaps, because you obviously have an axe to grind.
And, yes, I don't have a TV licence either, so I know you're [STRIKE]lying[/STRIKE] making things up.0 -

Hi there, this is probably a question that's been asked many times but still, I hope you can help me out
I have a TV at home but I don't watch it and I don't even have an aerial plugged into it. I do (occasionally) watch a girlie DVD on a Friday or Saturday night but I don't have much time for TV and anything I do watch I see on websites such as ITV Player and BBC iPlayer after the programme has already been on TV. I feel I'm paying money for nothing in having a TV License when I don't watch it, is there any way I can legally stop paying? I don't want to cause problems for my self and I don't want to get in trouble with the authorities but still, I could do other things with the money I'm spending/wasting on a license.
Many thanksxxx

No you don't need a licence so go ahead and cancel it and get a refund for anything due to you.:footie:
Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S)
Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money.

You don't need a license for what you described. Don't renew your license, let them know online you don't need one and then if someone comes around let them in and see that you don't watch TV. Job done and £145 year better off. I'd also detune your TV just in case. My license is due to expire at the end of the month and I will be doing precisely this. Although I will make sure I film them when they come in to check though in case they try any funny games. I'd imagine it would take them a few months to come round anyway and by that time analogue switch off would have taken place in my area so I will be incapable of watching TV even if I wanted to.0

If the guy can stick his finger in the Ariel socket and it shows TV, you get done.
