can someone just confirm this please? thank you xxx
Why would 2 random internet posters make it correct? just read the TVL website it clearly answers your question and states when and if you need a licence in plain English.0 -
If the guy can stick his finger in the Ariel socket and it shows TV, you get done.
Sell the TV and buy a hdmi monitor
What nonsense on so many levels.

I don't want to risk a £1,000 fine for being wrong. Thanks anyway xxx0 -
Communication Act 2003 Part 4
This is the act that the TV licensing people are working to. Unfortunately they do not allow their drones to see this but teach them a load of b****x. In places their website is just as inaccurate as the drivel coming out of their workers. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. You don't need a license for what you described. Don't renew your license, let them know online you don't need one and then if someone comes around let them in and see that you don't watch TV. Job done and £145 year better off. I'd also detune your TV just in case. My license is due to expire at the end of the month and I will be doing precisely this. Although I will make sure I film them when they come in to check though in case they try any funny games. I'd imagine it would take them a few months to come round anyway and by that time analogue switch off would have taken place in my area so I will be incapable of watching TV even if I wanted to.
I agree with all of this except:
a) Don't bother telling them you do not require a licence. They will not believe you and still send the monthly threat-o-grams and want to visit regardless of what you do. You are under no obligation to inform them that you do not require a licence.
b) Do not let them in under any circumstances - the TV licencing "inspectors" are in reality little more than salesmen representing the BBC, and will use all sorts of underhand and devious means to persuade people they require a licence, and next thing they know a court summons arrives. There are several cases on here where precisely this has happened.
The easiest (and fully legal) way to deal with them is to ignore all their letters, and should someone visit, simply tell them to get off your property.
The key thing to remember when dealing with TV Licencing (a trademark of the BBC) is that their "agents" or "officers" are simply employees of a private company (Capita) contracted to the BBC, and consequently have no special rights or powers than I do - if a salesman from Kenwood knocked on your door and asked to see what food mixer you use, you would rightly tell them to mind their own business.0 -

It says on the TVL website that if you let them know they will stop sending letters for 2 years. If your TV is detuned and aerial unplugged I can't see what underhand tactics they can use, especially when you fulfil the criteria for not needing a licence. I WILL be contacting them and filming the visit on my camera when they come to inspect as I have nothing to hide because I don't watch TV. I'd prefer things to be above board than in constant receipt of threatening letters. When analogue TV is switched off in my area in 2 months' time I won't even need to worry in case a TV channel isn't detuned properly.
EDIT: After spending some time reading about this I agree with the advice given. I will not be letting anyone from TVL in (I will just say I do not require a TV licence and ask them to leave). If in the extremely unlikely event that a search warrant is obtained (a policeman will be also be present and all will be recorded on camera by myself) then the results of that search will confirm that I do not require a TV licence. Thanks for the advice.0 -

I don't get WHY there are people on here are saying that we should let in a BBCTVL inspector or have anything to do with them?!! I am just about to go into my 4th year without a TV licence and I STILL watch as much TV as I want... it's VERY easy to do :rotfl:
I used to pay by Direct Debit for many years (fool!), when a friend told me to get rid of my fear (the fear that many 'authorities', etc push on us) and cancel the DD, which I did! The 1st thing I was told to do was to remove my name from the BBCTVL database, so when the first demand came I wrote 'NO CONTRACT RETURN TO SENDER' they no longer have my name
NEVER converse with a TVL inspector, they have NO lawful right to demand ANYTHING... unless you trip up and let them in/converse with them KEEP QUIET, when you open the door and there's a TVL bully there, just close the door and get on with your life.
If I'd have known how easy it was to not pay the BBC's stealth tax I would've done it years ago!Customer Services - what a joke!0
