Am I right in thinking it is a by-product of the brewing industry ? I've always assumed that was why it is made in Burton - but I may be totally wrong about the whole thing.
True, i know someone who works there and they also get the yeast extract from other breweries in the country as well.

Aside from the fact that squeezy marmite is just WRONG, it actually costs more than a normal jar and you get 50g less. Madness.

Am I the only one who refuses to buy the "squeezy" Marmite? It's a different formula - too runny - and it's wrongity wrong wrong!
Ooh I've been looking for that stuff. I won't bother now, thanks!

btw I was doing this survey for one of those companies and it looked like the customer was Marmite. There was a suggestion of Marmite & Cream cheese. Wrong, wrong, wrong. The most popular response was "It's just wrong" I tried it out of curiousity. Very wrong and slightly sickly . I only ate it because it was on my expensive bagel and I wasn't chucking that.

    Yes! :j :T

Marmite and marmalade on toast is the business. Preferably a good marmalade with great big bits in.

I'm not kidding, it's great. Try it. Now. :D
If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.

Queenie - please can you post your Marmite bread recipee - thanks

    Pinky x

I do mine in the BM and this is the recipe:-

    Marmite Bread
    11 fl oz water
2Tbsp marmite (you can use 1 but I like to taste it ;) )
    1 Tbsp oil
    1lb 2oz bread flour
    1 tsp sugar
    1¼ tsp yeast
    1 Tbsp sunflower seeds (optional)

Choose the basic white loaf setting, medium loaf setting and light crust.

It's gorgeous for sandwiches and just as good toasted. I've used it to make a savoury bread and butter pudding too. Tasty! ;)

 Wonder if I increase the oil by a Tbsp and reduce the water accordingly .... if it would make an interesting pizza base? Might try that! :D:D
