Have you tasted Vegemite? Obviously not. :D I like Promite better than Marmite as well. Do you get Promite?

AUSSIELASS I dont know how marmite tastes in Oz but the stuff in NZ is WWAAAYYY different to what they have here. Here the marmite is really more of a dark brown than the black we have and its runny too . I HATED it when I first arrived but 8 years on I wouldn't touch NZ marmite if you paid me!

Tried loads of own-brand yeast extracts, but no joy. I can take generic cereal etc. but marmite is one thing I won't compromise on. :D

    Why is this so expensive

I wouldn't have said it was remotely expensive, given how long a jar lasts.

Marmite looks like black tar and is thick and tastes disgusting. So must be a different recipe than in UK.

  • I feel I should point out that Marmite is the original yeast extract spread and comes from Burton on Trent in England and therefore all others (Antipodean or otherwise) are bound to be inferior :p:D:p:D

Ooops, just realised I said Tesco's own brand tasted the same as Marmite :o :rotfl:

There's quite a difference. I love Marmite, but find Vegemite positively disgusting.
