Your car alarm

Hi everyone

I hope that everyone is enjoying there weekend and the weather is bright and sunny where you are !


Anyway, I was only think the other day about my car alarm and if it were to go off, would I know it was mine.
I mean, I often hear car alarms going off in the street but no one really pays any attention to them any more.

If my car alarm were to go off, either accidentally or because someone was attempting to break into it I am unsure if I would know it was mine.
Mine is the factory fitted model by Ford, and no one can get into my car has I have double locking.


So, my question is, How many of you would know if your car alarm was going off and that it was YOUR car alarm?

As many cars now all sound the same, years ago a lot of people use to fit after market alarms and therefore they would sound different and you would know your own, but now alarms being fitted as standard by the car maker this isn't so easy!

Most car alarm sounds are the same! That's why indicators also flash to indicate which car sets off the alarm

When I hear car alarm outside my house, I see whether the lights are flashing in my car not [because my neighbor's old banger often sets off the alarm].

That's quite an assumption. A thief can smash the window of a deadlocked car. Most of the time they'll lean in and grab and go, but they will climb in and search. They'll be in and out in 15 seconds.

No, I haven't got a car alarm. Waste of time as no one ever takes any notice of them.

No, as I'm another person who doesn't have one.

To be honest I have my doubts that it'll deter the opportunist chav, who'll have a brick through your car window, grab the sat nav/ipod/laptop bag and be gone before you (or anyone else) can pick-up the phone and dial 999.

Back in the 80's and 90's before immobilisers were fitted as standard an alarm might have deterred a car thief but not a smash and grabber. Not much deters them, I've heard of little scrotes doing a smash and grab whilst someone was stopped at traffic lights :eek:

My car came with one as standard but no I wouldn't recognise it. If it went off outside my house I'd look if I heard it because we have a reasonable distance between us and our neighbours so I doubt we'd hear theirs. If out in town then I would be unlikely to be near the car anyway.

Haven't tested mine yet, ill go unlocked the door with the key later and find out

Pointless anyway, I was in Wolverhampton years ago, saw someone breaking into a small van in the middle of town, windows smashes, alarm goes off and 100+ people just walk on by..... I was probably about 15years old, so 15 years ago, but it's no different now.

Best to shop around really Kimberley.

But as a rough guide anywhere between £60 being very basic to £400 for the most advance system.


Regards double locking, I meant to say that I know someone could still do a smash and grab, although this would be hard on my car as my windows are tinted with security window film but also they wouldn't be able to steal my car

£200 ish for a toad ai606 thachcam cat 2 depends on what options you go for. the same for cliffod i think.

I know mine as it goes off daily at work - it's far too sensitive to the HGV'S rumbling past!
