What car do you drive now? If its some 1.4l petrol hatchback thats 10 years old but doesnt cost anything except tyres and a service every year I would be inclined to say the newer car will cost you more to run, in the whole picture

Currently drive an Audi TT so I know that this will not be more costly.

You have got the message, what is the difference between what is said in a magazine than what is posted on an internet forum, the JD power survey is far more representative of owners opinions than a couple of Fiat fans on this site, I am far more prepared to take notice of an independent survey of many thousands of owners over several years than you.

Still if you wish to run a Fiat that is your choice, personally I would not even bother to look at one, but that is my choice. :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

Can I question the JD survey and indeed these surveys in general? They never give enough statistics to inform us fully as to how they are based. In general the Bravo which was JDs worst car in that class, came in Auto Express' Driver Power Survey in at something like 26th overall.

There seems to be a huge variance- and that might be expected year to year, but I wouldn't put a huge amount of faith in surveys. I once did a Statistical Analysis class in Uni and the who science and psychology about user surveys is very interesting and about how 'brand expectation' can vary opinions on reliability.

In general Fiat dealers in my experience are what lets it down. If it does go wrong it is usually a cheap/easy fix, but the dealers can make things harder.

On the whole Fiat 500/Panda thing- well yes the 500 is an Panda with a different shape and more stylish interior. Yes you pay more, (but the quality is slightly higher of materials and finish) not to say the Panda is bad, but the 500 you can see a bit of the extra cash. It is expensive, but it is a nice car, shape might not be to everyones taste but given the numbers sold, quite clear than loads like it.

So why change? Have you figured out the cost of change versus how much it will save you on an annual basis?

Is it really about the money or do you just fancy a new car? In which case just go and get one if you can afford it. :)

Thinking of buying one. Anyone got one and would you recommend? Current car far too expensive to run so thinking of downgrading and really like the look of it. Any advice or comment gratefully appreciated. :)

Saving money by spending money, makes sense :rotfl:

My car does 30mpg, but ive seen one that does 38mpg and it's only £8000!
If I break into my savings and get a loan at £100 a month for 5 years I can save a massive £5 a month on petrol :wall:
