My DD has just started in her local comp. Here in Wales you automatically go to your local comp unless you ask for a preferred placement. Anyway local school is one of the best so no problem - except with UNIFORM.
We too have to buy Trutex - the only supplier with the logo is the school. The school want you to buy in June for September start as they are only open for a few hours a week (during working hours of course i.e 9am - 10am two days a week) in the last 2 weeks of August.
Black trousers - must have logo - start from £12
Sweatshirt - must have badge and logo - start from £12
PE kit - girls Skort with blooming logo £10 - 13
Out door pe top from £9 (not breathable, wickable etc just thick cotton)
In door pe top from £9 (same as outdoor just with round neck and short sleeves)
Hockey socks £5
D&T apron £4
Tie £3
Football shirt from £9
Rugby shirt from £11
Football socks £5
White blouses can be bought from anywhere.
School coats must be black or grey
Then you have to pay £3 school fees and also had a letter yesterday from D&T asking us to sign a contract to pay for the materials for D&T. Now unless I'm very mistaken if it's part of the Nat Circ. then the school should foot the bill. DD not happy when I said no I'm not signing. It's not the money is the blooming principle.~Laugh and the world laughs with you, weep and you weep alone.~:)

my DD and DS are both in high school in Wales and they have a uniform with logo on which we can buy from a local sportswear shop,
football and hockey socks are both plain black so I often pick up if I see any in a Sale and they share them
boys wear same shirts for playing football and rugby
girls have polo shirt and sweatshirt for PE
we have to pay for D&T materials too, I think most schools do it's for the extra materials to do practical work and they do get to keep what they make
otherwise your prices look similar to ours PoppyI am a Senior Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Wales, Small Biz MoneySaving, In My Home (includes DIY) MoneySaving, and Old style MoneySaving boards. Glad,
Local suppliers refused to supply the school uniform as it was too expensive and low profit margin. The school then decided rather than back down to open their own shop! Prices start ok for small 11 year olds but rise steeply. The girls trousers are a hideous fit, high waisted, stretchy and straight leg. If you are slightly overweight they are not at all flattering. Also difficult to get decent fit. DD is 4' 10" and below average weight for her age. Her waist measured 26" but that size trousers buried her. Next size down is 24" waist which fit better around hips but only just fit on waist. I think for younger girls who have not yet developed waisted if you want high waisted trousers they should have some elastic in them.
For PE I can't see why they cannot have a plain white t-shirt. Then if they have PE two days on the trot you don't have to wash as they are so cheap to buy.
I know I get to own the D&T items but I will even if I don't pay. The school doesn't have the room to store them and they have to pay for their waste disposal so I think it will come home anyway!
Looby75 can you give a link to the site. When I go onto trutex site they won't let me in as Idon't have a school code. Tried search on school name but not there. I would be interested to see how much the trousers are without log as I could buy her some and cut off badge from worn out ones.~Laugh and the world laughs with you, weep and you weep alone.~:)

In my little ones school, they have a summer uniform as well as a winter one
, they have to wear hats as well. I tried to get the supplier to supply me & a few mothers directly & they were having none of it
. The winter uniform alone is £300+, i have'nt the heart to enquire about the summer one yet!, like a good MSE i bought it all second hand, the only option i had left to me at these prices
I am really glad that this school uniform 'scam' is being investigated. No one said it was gonna be easy!0
