Thats all well and good for the parents who do assert themselves but what about the others who allow their kids to have the designer gear. Uniform stops all the competition there would otherwise be if kids wore their own clothes. I think it is also a part of the discipline (i.e. shirts having to be tucked in and looking smart at all times) and I do not think that is a bad thing.
Yes and I am all for uniform. But when the high school decides to raise funds by having an our of uniform WEEK £5 each plus they feel they have to have trendy clothes for it . It seems to me to negate the schools argument for uniform in the first place. Ie uniform identity, no designer rivalry, and a good impression of the school.

My DD has been in Comprehensive school for just over 1 week and already had her sweatshirt stolen by someone in her form. :(

  • a couple of years ago our local council decided that to finance budget cuts and to prevent a council tax increase, they would stop all school clothing grants. The problem with this is that they INSIST on full uniform being worn as stipulated by the school, including the games and PE kits that the school demands.
At the school our children go to, the total cost for every item of uniform/kit is in excess of £120. How the heck is anybody on benefits supposed to raise that amount of money? Thank you Wigan MBC.
Please check with your council first as to whether or not school clothing grants are available and what the uniform policy is at the school of your choice.
Can uniform policy be enforced if the costs are unrealistic? :wall:
