I think you could have told DS1 off until you were blue in the face, nothing would have induced him to do any buttons up on a polo shirt! I think he has a bit of a button phobia, just glad he accepted that "we wear shirts to Big School".

never thought of buying too big, but then i suppose he'd struggle to get all of the material into his trousers when tucking in lol! he needs to get used to wearing a shirt this year, in case the tie in high school is compulsory. hope i can get one on elastic :rotfl:
Pray there's a blazer or sweatshirt over the top, my boys only tuck their shirts in when specifically instructed to do so - and the teachers agree that it's discrimination, because the boys wear blazers so you can see if their shirts are tucked in or not, and the girls wear sweatshirts so you can't!

Again, the tie never has to be undone ... at least not on a daily basis! :rotfl:

I bought all of my kids uniforms at Sainsburys - TU range. Very good quality and reasonably priced too.

I've been looking at them, but I can't seem to find them in this area in black, but when I do I think I'll get one, they're nice - can you put polo shirts underneath or do you have to put a blouse/shirt?

I've had similar problems with trousers and skirts, loads of navy and grey, not so many black.

They are fine with a polo shirt underneath. Got mine from m and s and sorry to say no sign of any black ones there. I'm sure I've seen them around though.

Hi all, quick update, managed to find older daughter 2 pairs of trousers in navy blue in Select. They were on the sale rail and reduced from £14.00 each to a fiver each, result. Couldn't find blue trousers in New Look but they had loads in black and grey.

Ended up with a size 12 and 14, DD v. pleased as she said the material was really soft and not the scratchy type.

Went to Woolworths for younger daughter and managed to get 3 skirts for £1.00 each from the back to school range, also polo shirts reduced to £4.50 for pack of 2.

Must have been my least traumatic year for school uniform shopping, :rotfl: I'm usually ready to kill by the end of the day, Cheers for your tips.

Woolworths do teeenage sizes. My Mam had to get my clothes from ladies clothes stores by the time I was 13/14. Shocking as you end up paying VAT on it.

    Hi everyone.

I'm back on one of my fave (lol) subjects, the b!oody expensive school uniform that my dd's school introduced last year.

Part of the uniform for girls was a blouse from trutex costing £13 each. The blouse is a plain open necked blouse with a tiny 2 letter logo embroidered on the collar (which if the girls have long hair can't be seen anyway!) Being a good MSN'er I found someone who could embroider a couple plain white open necked shirts from asda with the same logo. Each shirt cost (including the cost of the embroidery) £4.75.

I wasn't the only parent to do this, at least 3 other girls in the school have the same none trutex blouses. My dd has just found out that one of the girls (her friend) has had a letter home about her blouse telling her that because it wasn't purchased from trutex she wasn't allowed to wear it. The only difference between the blouses from trutex and the ones we have had embroidered are that the trutex ones are made from a slightly thicker cotton and are stretchy (have lycra in them), which is a big problem for my dd as she is rather well developed and no matter what size blouse I buy her if it's a stretchy material it has a tendency to gape open round the bust, which causes her a lot of embarrassment from the comments from hormonal boys in her class.

She has been told there is going to be a uniform inspection today infront of the whole school in assembly and she knows that she will probably get pulled up for not having a trutex blouse. I've told her to be polite but ask the teacher doing the inspection to call me asap so I can discuss it with them.

Last time I mentioned uniform on this site I got a lot of good advice on how it's not actually compulsory anyway, but I can't find those posts now (it was a while ago)

Can anyone help and give me advice how to argue my dd's corner.

OH and I think the real reason the school doesn't like none trutex blouses is because they get 10% of all sales from trutex....they don't get that if you don't buy from them.
