But that would only be if your microwave was being used 24/7 for a whole month. They may use a lot of power, but not for very long!

Mine arrived yesturday but waited till today to install as i had Eon swop me from a pre-pay meter to a normal one. Hopefully with the reduced rates, knowledge of what each device is using and better insulation that when i moved in last year, i can start saving some real money.

With all my normal items on but not in use (fridge in use, kettle, toaster, cooker, wifi and broadband) the rate read a steady 13w. Turn on the PC though and shot up to 300w, with it now settled at 250 30 mins later. I have a gaming compter so once i get the micro computer running that figure should lower.

Very happy with the monitor so far, software also seems to work. One question though, how do you use the appliance 1,2,3 thing? Booklet just says it can be used to monitor appliances but when i press up (app1) the screen is just -- on each part, turning the fridge off for 5 min and back on didnt seem to make any reaction from the monitor. Thoughts?

This is why these monitors are misleading. Turning off a fridge for 5 mins would have little or no effect on consumption if the compressor was already off. Fridges and freezers do not consume power constantly. Once the temperature has been reached the thermostat shuts down the compressor.

Sorry mole, but not sure what you mean. :o

A row of dashes usually means a temporary loss of signal but this generally sorts itself out quickly.

I would have a word with our help desk for much better info/advice. Contact details are in the booklet sent with the monitor.

Sorry I can't be more help mole.

If I remember my wiring colours correctly, brown is neutral (like in mains plugs). The blue cable is the live one. Think of it this way: bLue is Live, browN is Neutral

I'm surprised no one has noticed this completely wrong information.

In a mains 13 amp plug in the UK the wiring is
    • Brown - Live
    • Blue - Neutral
    • Yellow and green - Earth
not as MothballsWallet incorrectly posted. He even got the mnemonic wrong.

(Mnemonic: The live brown cow stood on the green and yellow earth and looked up into the neutral blue sky)

Just installed my meter tonight for the first time and apart from it losing the time, its a handy little gadget for free, and im sure it will help me keep the costs down.

You can't yet, we're awaiting the special plug socket adaptors that can be used to monitor individual appliances. Last time I checked these still weren't available, although it would appear that EDF have stolen the march on EoN as they're supplying their energy monitor with 3 of these plugs! :( Some you win.....
