huh what batteries don't they already come set up?

I give up. Have you actually read the instructions for this device?
I've no idea if the batteries are pre-installed, supplied in the box or an additional purchase.
But even if pre-installed, you'll need to remove the little plastic or paper slip that stops the unit switching on before installation.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

No one is being nasty, but you are not approaching this very logically. Nothing 'technical' about it.
If you read the instructions then it should tell you how to set the clock to the correct time, and how to enter all the other set-up data. It's not automatic, there is no clock on your electricity meter to synch to, so it's a manual process.

Quite correct, I was just trying to help you with the basic set up, I don't have one of these models and not aware of any specific issues with them.
Is the clock synch that important to the main function of the device though?

Occasionally, my unit will show q continuous red light for several minutes. I've lost the instruction booklet, can anyone tell me what this means?
    Thanks
at least you can get yours working, i cant
Mine only works when it feels like it. I'm glad it didn't cost me any money.

  • Both the "current cost" hardware and the EON software are a commercial disgrace. Clearly they are offered free by EON because they were dumped by the manufacturers onto EON at a rock bottom bulk price, and could certainly not be sold at any price. EON, being an unscrupulous utility, dumped them onto customers hoping that they would gain some green PR credit points. This is another example of the consequences of a toothless so-called energy regulator that is supposed to protect us from rogue energy utilities like EON.

Red light update - it's supposed to show when the consumer unit is set to the 2nd rate/Economy 7 rate - which on my meter is currently during the day...
Please forgive me if my comments seem abrupt or my questions have obvious answers, I have a mental health condition which affects my ability to see things as others might.
