  • Hi S AND I

I've had a look through your other thread and there's already some excellent advice on there.

I'm not sure what is causing your particular spike but I would emphasise a couple of things already mentioned on the other thread.

As Andy_WSM says, make sure you are not picking up a signal from a neighbour's transmitter. Might be an idea to tune your transmitter and display again. Have a look at page 11 of your instruction pack.

Whilst the monitors give a good indication of usage, the best way to see an accurate picture is by keeping an eye on your meter.

Again, as Andy says, the sort of spike you are talking about will be very noticeable and your meter readings will reflect this.

If it turns out your monitor is giving out duff info, have a word with our support team. The number is in the instruction pack we sent with the monitor. They will be happy to advise or replace the monitor if necessary.

Sorry if this is a bit vague S AND I but hope it gives you a couple of pointers.

Have you synched the transmitter unit to the monitor?

    Hi Ben

Sorry you're having a problem with your energy monitor. Can I just mention a couple of things.

The cable the jaws should fit around is the one that connects the meter to the fusebox. This is the live cable. It is usually thick black or grey. Some have a red marker on them.

Clip your sensor jaw around this cable being careful not to pull or bend the cable.

Make sure the sensor jaws should fit around the cable fairly loosely and are not pinching the cable.

Don't worry if you attach the jaws to the wrong cable; you won't damage anything. Just unclip it and try again.

Check the transmitter's aerial is in an upright position.

If, after the above, you still have a blank display, please call our helpline. Contact details are on the information pack we sent with the monitor.

Sorry if I'm teaching you how to suck eggs Ben and you've already done all this but these are the type of things we will ask when you call. May save a bit of time if you've already done them.

I received my meter today and installed it as per the instructions. I placed the monitor on the kitchen counter and the transmitter in the cupboard under the stairs where my electricity meter (and mains input) is located with the sensor jaw attached to the relevant cable. The monitor and transmitter were about 10 feet from each other. All the lights flashed as suggested but no consumption figures showed.

I then proceeded to move the monitor to different locations and, eventually had success when I placed the monitor about 1 foot away from the transmitter with both now under the stairs. Hardly a convenient place to be noticing my consumption but it would indicate that some of the problems that people are having may be down to poor signal transmittance/reception between the units.

I'm rather glad that I have wired connections between my computers and broadband rather than wireless otherwise I might be having similar problems with them. My house is only about 50 years old and not expected to give problems of this sort.

I spoke too soon. The meter readings lasted about 30 minutes and then the consumption / cost figures disappeared again even with the transmitter and monitor still about 12 inches from each other.

Looks like I'm left with an item that gives the temperature and the time but, like others have mentioned, that is not keeping proper time either.

    Dear Malc

    Thanks for your response.

The meter is not totally blank; the clock and temperature signals always show up fine but, the important data i.e Watts and Cost are extremely intermittent. Sometimes they show up but most of the time they are blank. This is despite having the monitor stationary and virtually alongside the transmitter.

This thus renders the data highly dubious.
  • I'm having a similar problem. Received a monitor a few weeks back and fitted the transmitter in the outdoor meter box. The monitor would only work if it was near the kitchen door around 2 metres from the transmitter.

I called the technical helpline and was advised to send it back with a note stating "weak reception problem". The new monitor arrived this morning and it's got exactly the same problem.

This is supposed to have a "30 metre" range through walls ?
