All seems to work fine (Wattage readings all seem plausible) except for the clock on the monitor itself, which is running at three times the correct speed.

For example, if I set the time on the monitor to 10:00, it flips to 10:01 20 seconds later, and then to 10:02 another 20 seconds later and so on, making any time based readings meaningless - unless the downloaded data onto the PC is correct. I haven't had the unit long enough to check this. Geoff

Further to my earlier post about eoncustomer's energy monitor problem, I have been talking to our technical support team about this.

Apparently, there have been a few more cases of this problem than I was aware of.

The advice I was given was to unplug the monitor for approx 30 minutes and then plug it back in again. This has sorted the problem in most instances.

However, should this not fix the problem, it is best to return the monitor for replacement.

Hope this is useful to anyone with a similar problem.

My monitors clock seems to lose about 10 minutes each day, does anyone else have the same
I received my pack yesterday and fitted the monitor, etc. All seems to work fine (Wattage readings all seem plausible) except for the clock on the monitor itself, which is running at three times the correct speed.

Would have been nice if mine had worked at all. I'm surprised at Eon supplying units that seem have such poor reliabilty. Would surely have made more sense to have charged a few quid and supplied something of decent quality. If so many are faulty after waiting 3 months for them it's probably not going to endear Eon to many of their customers - free or not.
  • Hope I haven't given the wrong impression Rollinghome.

Whilst we have had a few problems reported, these need to be seen in the overall context of the unprecedented demand we have had for our monitors.

So far, we have sent out well over 100,000 monitors and this is still counting.

I'm sorry you have had a problem with your monitor but, I have to say, you are in a very small minority. The vast majority of monitors, mine included, appear to be working fine.

Also, some of the issues reported are often resolved quickly.

Have you spoken to our support team about your particular problem? If not, I would have a chat with them. As I posted above, contact details are on the instruction sheet and our website; or, alternatively, drop an email to the address in my Profile and I will be happy to advise.

Sorry if previous posts have given the wrong impression but hope this helps build your confidence about the general reliability of our monitors.

  • Received my device today.

    Issues so far:

1 Tuned in transmitter/monitor. Installed transmitter to meter. Powered up monitor which shows 2 transmitters. Re-tuned monitor/transmitter - still shows 2 transmitters!

2 Power connection to monitor has bad connection

3 Watts usage with just Eon monitor, laptop & router running approx 94 watts but fluctuates wildly.

4 Software, had to follow forum advice to install successfully program software but still cannot get the device driver to install under Vista 32bit SP1 despite two calls to Eon support and downloading/installing the latest software & drivers.

Have now spent hours with all this so not at all impressed Eon. Seems the Prolific drivers are no good and the device is of poor quality & gives missleading information when it does work.

    Hi martlea

I'm sorry to hear you are having difficulties with your energy monitor.

You are doing exactly the right thing in talking to our support team about these problems. They are best placed to advise.

Should you continue to have difficulties, I would consider returning the monitor for replacement. We will be happy to do this for you.

  • Cost of returning 'faulty' device is not worth it so will live with monitor device issues.

Here is how I fixed the monitor device driver install issue with Vista 32bit SP1:

After checking forums for driver support to no avail I called Eon support twice, first link sent was for full software package (with the same faulty Prolific Driver). Second link sent was for updated Prolific driver only from the Current Cost website - this is the 'all-in-one' driver.

Installed second driver version - vista still failed to recognise or install it.

Now ran complete system clean up after uninstalling all versions of Prolific drivers, using C Cleaner to remove all remaining temp files and clean Registry. Disabled all anti-virus (AVG), security software and (after disconnecting from Internet) firewall (Zone Alarm).

Re-boot Vista multiple times as necessary.

Re-installed all-in-one driver again (making sure full Admin privilleges etc., restart vista - again. Connected monitor, Vista failed to load driver again.

Finally, just before throwing all this away, changed monitor cable to a different USB port on my laptop.

Success at last! Vista instantly recognised and installed device driver.

I'm not permitted to post the link to the Current Cost site for the correct Prolific driver here so call Eon support for it.

Hope this helps anyone else who has this issue.

Ours arrived today, it looks great but since we live in a flat and I have no idea which cable is which it's a bit useless. It's not obvious which is the 'live' cable into our meter (our cables are blue, brown and yellow/green - new build). I looked it up and apparently brown is 'live' for new builds but I can't get it to work when it's on the brown cable (shows 0 watts).
  • Hi lauh88

Don't worry if you attach the jaw to the wrong cable, you won't damage anything. Just unclip it and try again.

If you are still struggling, have a chat with our support team and they will be happy to help. Their contact details are in the pack we sent you.

Hope everything goes ok. Give me a shout if I can help further as will be glad to do so. :)

I've no axe to grind with Eon, but equally I've no reason to support them, however what cost is this?

I returned mine in the original box to the FREEPOST address that they told me to, so the only cost was my time in going to the Post Office to get a proof of posting...though I'm still waiting for the replacement (they did say to wait 28 days and it's now been 21 days).
